FOUR TIMES, CORPORAL RICKY FURGUSSON MOVED TOWARDS WOUNDED COMRADES DESPITE THE THREAT OF FURTHER EXPLOSIONS. THEN AN IED TOOK BOTH HIS LEGS—BUT IT COULD NOT TAKE HIS DETERMINATION. From Telford in Shropshire, Ricky joined the British Army at approximately 16 years old and began training in September 2001. He initially served with the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Green Jackets. When The Rifles was formed in 2007, he transferred to its 4th Battalion. Ricky served in Northern Ireland and Iraq before deploying to Afghanistan in 2009. By then, he was a corporal and section commander with A Company, 4 RIFLES—responsible not only for leading his Riflemen, but for bringing them safely through some of the most dangerous territory in Helmand Province. His company operated in Sangin, where improvised explosive devices presented a constant and often hidden threat. During four separate incidents in late 2009, British soldiers were wounded by explosions. Each time, Ricky moved towards the casualties. Despite knowing that further devices might be waiting, he entered the danger area, provided emergency first aid and organised the evacuation of the wounded. His actions helped save lives, although one grievously injured soldier could not be saved. Ricky repeatedly placed the survival of his comrades before his own safety. Then, on 13 January 2010, the danger found him. While withdrawing from a compound in Sangin, Ricky triggered an explosive device concealed near the exit. The blast caused catastrophic injuries. He lost both legs above the knee, his left eye and five fingers. His face and head were also terribly wounded. Ricky spent weeks in intensive care and underwent numerous operations. What followed was a long and painful rehabilitation during which he had to rebuild his life and learn to walk using prosthetic legs. Yet less than eleven months after the explosion, he achieved something extraordinary. On 7 December 2010, Ricky walked forward using two sticks to receive the Military Cross from Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. The decoration recognised the courage he had shown while repeatedly going to the aid of wounded comrades in Afghanistan. His name had been included in the Operational Honours and Awards List announced that September. But Ricky’s determination did not end with the investiture. In 2012, he carried the Olympic flame through Shropshire. Two years later, he competed at the inaugural Invictus Games—standing among fellow wounded service personnel who had refused to allow injury to define the limits of their lives. He also continued supporting other injured veterans, using his experience to help those beginning their own difficult journeys through recovery. Ricky’s Military Cross recognised what he did for others before he was wounded. Everything that followed revealed another form of courage: the determination to rebuild a life after losing so much. 🎖️ Corporal Ricky Furgusson MC — 4th Battalion, The Rifles. 🦿 A section commander who repeatedly risked his life for wounded comrades and then fought his own way back from devastating injuries. 🇬🇧 His courage in Sangin and determination throughout recovery will always command respect.

This is not the acceptable way for a police officer to use handcuffs… striking someone in the throat, among other things… this officer must be held accountable…

What an interesting read........... On Jeopardy the other night, the final question asked: “How many steps does the guard take during his walk across the Tomb of the Unknown?” All three contestants missed it. Tomb of the Unknown Soldier 1. How many steps does the guard take during his walk across the Tomb and why? He takes 21 steps — symbolizing the 21-gun salute, the highest military and foreign tribute. 2. How long does he pause before turning to walk back and why? He waits 21 seconds, again in honor of the same tradition. 3. Why are his gloves damp? They are lightly moistened to ensure he never loses his grip on his rifle. 4. Does he keep his rifle on the same shoulder, and if not, why? He always carries it on the shoulder farthest from the Tomb. After each crossing, he performs an about-face and moves it to the outside shoulder. 5. How often are the guards changed? Every 30 minutes, 24/7, 365 days a year. 6. What are the physical requirements for a Tomb Guard? Applicants must be between 5'10" and 6'2" and have a waist no larger than 30". Other expectations of the Guard: They devote two years to the Tomb, live in the barracks beneath it, and must refrain from drinking alcohol on or off duty for the rest of their lives. They can never swear in public or dishonor the uniform or the Tomb. After two years, they earn a wreath pin signifying their service — fewer than 400 are currently worn. If they violate the code, they must relinquish the pin. Their shoes have thick soles to protect against extreme temperatures and metal heel plates that create the crisp click when they halt. Uniforms must have zero wrinkles or lint and are inspected in a full-length mirror. For the first six months, guards do not speak to anyone and do not watch television. Their off-duty time is spent studying the 175 notable individuals buried at Arlington National Cemetery, memorizing who they are and where they rest. Among them: President Taft, Joe E. Lewis, and Audie Murphy, the most decorated WWII soldier. Every guard spends five hours daily preparing their uniform. ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM, O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM. When Hurricane Isabel approached Washington, D.C. in 2003, Congress shut down for two days. The guards were offered permission to suspend duty due to danger. They replied: “No way, Sir!” Drenched and marching through the storm, they insisted that guarding the Tomb is the highest honor, not just a task. The Tomb has been continuously guarded — day and night — since 1930. God Bless and Keep Them I don’t often encourage sharing posts, but I would be honored if this one reached as many people as possible. We should always feel proud of the men and women who serve, wherever they are stationed. Duty – Honor – Country IN GOD WE TRUST — with Herbert F Wieland.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Some claims in this post are inaccurate. The Society of the Honor Guard says the Tomb has been guarded since 1937, the guard changes hourly in winter, sentinels can drink off duty, and there is no lifetime ban on alcohol or swearing. tombguard.org/society/faq leadstories.com/hoax-alert/202…

Yep. I think that pretty much sums it up.
So, basically, 500 million Europeans expect 300 million Americans to protect them from 120 million Russians who can’t even defeat 40 million Ukrainians while those 500 million Europeans don’t even realize they are being conquered by 2 billion Muslims who claim they are being persecuted by 8 million Israelis. Is that about right? 1

“None of them have had their visas revoked”. Of course they haven’t … that would involve this government doing something which prioritises the safety of the vulnerable over migration wouldn’t it?
Here's an astonishing stat: Just over half of all visas granted to care workers in 2023 were sponsored by employers that have since lost their licences, mostly due to fraud or abuse. That’s ~200,000 people once you include dependants. None of them have had their visas revoked.

Muslims say they hate Halloween because it’s haram and against their religion, but they have no problem stealing Halloween candy from children who actually celebrate it. The most contradictory religion ever.
