Surgeries are increasingly opening patients’ brains to research. But the opportunities that come with this intimate access also raise complex ethical issues. Learn more: fcld.ly/w8dsaz7 @ScienceVisuals

Yayyy, another preprint! It's always nice to have extra confirmation that visual detection activates where we think it should! Also, so much of this team has dispersed to different locales and it's nice to revisit halcyon collaboration days!

Just out in the New Yorker: An article about Men Reading Minds with fMRI! The author mentions 9 male and 0 female neuroscience professors, a feat made possible by impressive contortions like attributing a study from Ev Fedorenko’s lab to one of its male middle authors.

This is what it took me until my last year of grad school to realize. I’m still regularly overwhelmed by how much I don’t know, but I no longer suffer from the delusion that everyone else in my position knows 5x more than me.

Come check out this session next Wednesday, where you can hear a whole lot about the Blumenfeld lab's take on perception (and like...2 random people who got stuck into a session with the lot of us!)

My Twitter reach is super small, but if anyone is looking for an awesome lab, which is part of an equally awesome neuroscience (and auditory neuroscience!) community: don't let this opportunity pass you by!

See, I told you more papers were forthcoming! So grateful to have been a part of this massive undertaking. And serious props to @sharifkronemer. The # of techniques used here gives only the slightest hint of how insane he is (hint 2: he doesn’t like pizza (!?!). Insanity QED.)

Really proud to be part of the team for this. This is just the first taste of the exciting work that this branch of the Blumenfeld lab has been working on (but until recently, hoarding for ourselves!) for the past few years. Stay tuned for more!
Check out our exciting new work about the very earliest signals associated with visual conscious perception. doi.org/10.1016/j.neuroimage…

One of the biggest mysteries of Covid-19 has been why some people become very ill, while a large number of people who are infected show no symptoms at all. It turns out that this protection may be linked to the most mundane of illnesses…the common cold. A thread.

Being involved in GLIA was one of the highlights of grad school for me, and it was wonderful to get a chance to talk about it this past Nov. GLIA's continued doing awesome stuff--including putting together this great panel and workshop.
This past SfN ‘18 meeting a group of NGG students, alumni and faculty led an incredible workshop on “how to bring a student-run outreach program to your institution” based on our GLIA model. Check it out! Thanks to @SfNtweets for the highlight!

Recent findings show that "population-level #A1 activity, but not single neurons" help to #detect sound against a #noisy background. Read: "Contribution of spiking activity in the primary auditory cortex to detection in noise." Link here: doi.org/10.1152/jn.00521.201…

I, too, am not nice to things (evidence: 3 PCs in 5 yrs). I've spilled mochas on my mac, dropped it down stairs...still great
Yup! Macs are $$$, but last longer. I've had my macbook pro 5 yrs. The 5 yrs before? 3 PCs (I'm a PC destroyer, clearly)
