Update regarding community safety on VGen
UNETHICAL BROKERS:
Happy to say we’ve identified many previously unconfirmed JRUhub brokers, affiliates, and other unethical group accounts and they have all been banned for misrepresenting the nature of their profiles and services, intentionally inviting bad actors, and ban evading.
Big thank you to everyone in our community who has helped to investigate, report on-site, and provide detailed proof that our team were then able to review and take action on. Thank you for helping us keep the community safe!
REMAINING BROKERS:
In the short term, broker discovery has been rebalanced, their withheld funds processed through VGen Payments may not be released until after a commission is complete, and all brokers will continue to not have any invite codes. If any broker accounts mistype themselves as an individual or studio, they will now be suspended for at least 1 month immediately upon discovery.
We are still evaluating whether additional long-term actions are required.
Please do not assume all brokers are bad. However, if you do see suspicious behaviour, please continue to report them on-site and we will investigate.
ARTIST INVITE CODES:
There is now a hard limit of 2 unused artist invite codes per Verified Artist at any given time. If you earn more through a challenge or special event drop and you already have 2 in your dashboard, you won’t receive any more.
ARTIST CODE GIVEAWAYS:
Effective Nov 1, 2026, general contests, raffles, or applications are no longer allowed, even if recipients are screened. This is due to the increasing sophistication of groups who fraudulently misrepresent themselves as individuals.
If you see someone hosting a raffle or are in violation of our Artist Code Policy in any way, please report them on-site with a screenshot or link to their violating post and we’ll investigate. Their first offence will result in a warning before more severe administrative actions may be taken for repeated offences, including losing verification status and suspensions.
Please see our full VGen Artist Code Policy here: help.vgen.co/hc/en-us/articl…

It's okay to lament once in a while about life issues here, but when more than 80% of your posts since the dawn of your first tweet are passive-aggressive woe is me "people are mean to me"/"no comms, I guess people must hate me" people will be put off.

So I entered a free Halloween artwork raffle. I won and for 2 days now, they’ve been hassling me to pay them and “commission” them. They won’t take no for an answer and you can clearly tell this is a scam/bot.
PLEASE AVOID THEM AT ALL COST

As the current Vgen conversation revolves heavily around digital artists, I would like to caution commissioners to also be wary of AI music scammers. Due to the fact people are less knowledgeable about AI music's common tells, a lot of scammers have slipped through...

But did the potential client know it was a trial? Because I don't know how brokers (which you are, sorry) work, but it seems like incredibly bad practice to test a potential artist on a potential client, especially without their knowing.
Feels like passing blame. Again.
To clarify some things, because we see a lot of misunderstanding and assumption.
1. Each artist is vetted internally - we commission them privately for assets and spend our own money and time to make sure they appear reliable before going through our lengthy onboarding process
2. A lot of artists we look at are ones that people request a lot through our mihuashi proxy service. So we accept a few external requests, and see how they handle external commissions first, before inviting them to be an internal artist.
3. To be an internal artist, it is not so simple. You need to fill out an application, pass a review, sign a contract, record promotional material, and go through a 30 day+ trial phase where you get 1 commission to see how you can handle it. If at any point either party feels it is not a good fit, the trial is cancelled and money is refunded and Jiang Atelier eats the loss.
4. Fanguu never actually worked with us or paid for any service. She put in a Vgen waitlist request. We went through out normal procedure, which includes opening a ticket with them in our discord that has a live translator to consult with the artist. NO MONEY WAS REQUEST OR PAID. The artist, who had been very punctural before, suddenly stopped replying, and seemed disinterested. We did not like the artist's sudden attitude, so we ended the trial, removed their services, and did not proceed with them.
5. Fanguu's request is from May 2025, which is before we made major management changes and internal reorganization.

To help compile these reviews, I created two short feedback surveys, one for artists and one for clients / commissioners.
If you have used any of the commission platforms listed below, I would appreciate a few minutes of your input.
I am gathering feedback on platform fees, payout rules, ease of use, order tracking, payment safety, and how sites handle AI policies and reporting. There is also space to share direct bug reports or suggestions you want passed along to platform developers.
Whether your time on a platform was smooth or frustrating, sharing your experience will help shape these public reviews and point the community toward fair, safe spaces.
Survey 🔗s in comments!
Thank you for helping out!💚
Survey Includes ; artistree , bidonmyart , booth , commsGG , drawmarket , etsy , fiverr , kirkesocial , ko-fi, pipipen , skeb , vgen
Last week I asked for suggestions on alternative platforms for art commissions, and I appreciate everyone who chimed in.
Over the next couple of months, I’m going to spend time properly looking into these options. My plan is to explore how each platform works, talk to artists and clients who regularly use them, and hire an artist or two on each site to test out the full process firsthand. Once I have a clear picture, I’ll post a thorough public review sharing my thoughts on usability, payment safety, platform fees, and overall experience.
My hope is to help highlight fair, reliable spaces that genuinely support independent artists and commissioners.
I’ll be listing the suggested platforms in the replies below. If you are an artist actively taking commissions on one of those sites, feel free to drop your profile link under the corresponding comment!
If there is a commission platform you would like to see reviewed that isn't listed in the comments yet, reply with the name so I can add it to my list.

Our thoughts on the state of brokers, and the fear a lot of artists are feeling right now:
We've been reading your posts and seeing how affected you are by this. You've spent years learning to draw, and are now competing with brokers who steal work, use AI, and sell it for less. And clients are hurt by this too: they commission something in good faith, then find out they'd paid for unethical work.
This is a legitimate issue, and every commission site is dealing with it, us included. We've found brokers here pretending to be individuals and studios, which we banned once we were able to confirm it. Other platforms are fighting the same thing, and we want them to win too. Artists as a whole are better off when every platform is a harder place for unethical brokers to operate.
The questions we've been seeing, and our thoughts:
"Why ban brokers? Some of them are ethical."
Some are, and we don't doubt that. However, we felt the unethical ones outnumbered the good ones. Sorting the good from the bad case by case wasn't something a team our size could do reliably, and we would prefer for artists to sell directly so they can keep more of their earnings.
"Even if you ban a broker, they'll just make a new account posing as an individual, so it's pointless."
Even if that's true, it isn't a reason to stop. First, being a broker on our platform is against our TOS. Second, a ban does have consequences, even for brokers. A successful broker account usually takes time: tons of listings, reviews, followers, repeat clients, a social media presence with history... The new account has to start over from scratch. Imagine if your commission page was banned, and you had to change your identity entirely to open another one. Now imagine that happening over and over. Eventually, you may not want to even bother selling on that platform at all, and that's our goal with brokers.
"If you don't allow brokers, why is there one on your platform?"
Anyone who applies as a broker gets rejected. The ones who get through don't apply as brokers. A broker being here means they either got past our application by lying, or that they received a Creator Key from another artist that trusted them. Although we strive to 100% broker free, we can't promise that (no platform can) because there will always be bad actors and people who are dishonest. However, we do investigate and remove the ones we have evidence for.
"I reported a broker that was labelled on another platform, why weren't they banned?"
A ban or label on another platform is useful context, but we don't have access to the evidence behind another platform's decision. And when we ask these accounts why they were labelled a broker elsewhere, they say they were never given a reason for the label, and that it was inaccurately applied to their account. Please know we want to act on every legitimate report. However, we can't ban someone just because another site did. We have to treat reports with consistency and fairness, and that means acting on evidence: what you send us, or what we find ourselves when we investigate. So if you're reporting a broker, please gather evidence that can be independently verified, and submit it with your report.
Our final thoughts:
We understand the frustration, and we appreciate that you're holding platforms to a higher standard. People speaking up for what they believe in is how change happens. We also want to remind people: there's room to be kind while you advocate. There's been a lot of harsh criticism on here lately, and we've been seeing other platforms receive a lot of hate as well, so please remember that there are real people reading your words, and they can hurt. We know first hand that running a platform is not easy. We also don't earn as much as others due to our 0% commissions fees, and it's especially hard for us to hire more people to moderate at the moment. However, that's not stopping us from continuing to work hard and doing what we can with what we have.
Thanks for reading if you made it this far, we'll continue to do our best to support you.

Doing art commissions is a business. It's a job. You get paid to draw. You manage income you receive from it. You have clients. It's funny when people discredit art as job/career/side hustle.

Folks, please, please, PLEASE, for the love of GOD before you join random raffles / drop your ocs, LOOK AT THE ARTIST'S PROFILE FIRST. If 95% or more of their posts are engagement bait, & zero art, DON'T JOIN.

People in this space will say "SUPPORT REAL ARTISTS" until you see someone doing exactly that, supporting and paying real artists well for their time and artistry... then you'll judge them, dunk on them and raise yourselves up by trying to push them down.
I see you.

Curious question... How do you guys know it's #portfolioday ?
kimithepumpkin✨comms waitlist✨ retweeted
I made a post for artists how to stay away from getting involved with brokers, and this one will be about:
WHAT ARE BROKERS and why is it BAD TO COMMISSION them.
👥 WHAT ARE BROKERS?
- Basically from what I know, a broker is a 'middleman' between the artists, think of it like a 'manager' but they are usually horrible people.
- Most brokers heavily exploit the poor artists who are minors, forcing them to draw NSFW, pay them like $5-$20 when they get for example $200, hold their legal IDs and PayPal with changed passwords on VGen so that they are 100% of control with finances and if the artists were ever to complain or be late to work, the middleman would threaten to dox them online, ruin their reputation and strip away their income.
- The middleman is the one who promised and manipulated the artists, promised them good pay, and huge growth but it's a trap. The situation is so saddening, once you get out it's like you can never get out... They are in really vunarable place.
Real bussiness pay with their own banking account, never ask for yours.
That's the difference. While there might be legitimate brokers, it feels insanely rare in this shady broker situation.
⚠️ WHY YOU SHOULD AVOID COMMISSIONING THEM?
- From what I've noticed they usually offer really cheap and unrealistic prices for probably many hours of work/labor put. While it seems 'afordable' it's actually just exploitation.
- The brokers keep swarming us; independent artists who actually care, so I highly encourage to *support individuals* instead. You'd be actually paying to support someone rather than giving money to those horrible people who keep the money for themselves and treat their artists like machines instead of human beings that they are.
- On the side note, there are brokers who pretend to be individuals, so it's not all black and white. And I still don't understand why VGen only drops a broker label when it comes to light instead of banning them immediately for being shady. Legit bussiness wouldn't need to hide what they are.

With the VGen broker situation, I want to spread awareness and hope to prevent exploitation.
ARTISTS, HOW TO AVOID GETTING INVOLVED WITH BROKERS:
🚩 THE RED FLAGS:
- Storefront Takeover: They ask you to verify a VGen profile using YOUR ID, but want to link THEIR payout email. Never hand over your payment backend.
- Vague Identity: They use generic "studio manager" personas and have zero behind-the-scenes presence or organic workflow files.
- Predatory Contracts: Massive "fees" if you try to leave, or locking your personal accounts hostage if a piece is late.
🛡️ HOW TO STAY BULLETPROOF:
- Keep 100% control over your storefront, communication, and client invoicing.
- NEVER share your government IDs, face scans, or PayPal API tokens with anyone claiming to be a "manager."
- Use your workflow history! Keep your raw project files and speedpaints as your proof of your work.
Real, ethical agencies use their own verified business banking, pay you your full contracted rate with THEIR account, and openly credit you as the creator.
Please stay safe, stay independent, and protect your work! 🫶🏻
(RT to help reach more people are deeply appreciated!)
