Bond markets turn on Burnham
The verdict’s in.
The markets see a socialist PM in complete denial about the state of the UK’s public finances with no plan or strategy for rectifying them.

Truss was widely abused by Labour when the cost of govt borrowing hit 4.6%.
Today under Burnham it’s just hit 5.21%, the worst in decades. This is a Socialist nightmare and we’re left with the bill.

Parliament returns next week, and we'll see if Andy Burnham is a man of action or just vibes. Either way, I'll be there to hold him to account.
He can start on Tuesday by stopping Labour’s early-release programme. The horrific A66 crash shows what happens when criminals believe they'll get away with crimes.

You were elected in July 2024 promising to cut average household energy bills by £300. Back then the household energy cap was £1,568. In October it will be £1,730. So instead of a £300 cut, a £162 rise. With bigger increases to come next year. Will we ever see that £300 cut? Or has it now gone the way of the promised to build 1.5m new homes between 2024 and 2029? I rather fear so.
Apple’s liquid glass icons have to be designed by people so young who have never used the objects they’re modeled after snd therefore didnt notice the detail
The problem, as someone in the replies pointed out, is not the pin, it’s the overlapping needles that make them look like they move independently like watch hands
Steve Jobs, who lost his shit over the wrong shade of yellow used in the Google logo on the iPhone, would have fired everyone making iconography at Apple right now.

Wind providing a mere 3% of UK electricity this morning. So we’re having to import 10 times that amount at massive cost. Plus generate almost the same from gas-fired stations expensively kept for this sort of back up. As a result we’re paying an average £136/MWh. Our energy policy is a costly shambles.

If you thought Burnham and Labour would be a more caring government you were very wrong. Here they are cutting preventative care for older men, whilst spending billions more on illegal immigrants and welfare claimants. Tells you all you need to know.

Why are TVs getting cheaper, but energy is getting more expensive? Here's a hint: the government might just have something to do with it.

As a proud northerner, I don’t need persuading that too many of our national institutions have an unhealthy metropolitan London bias. So why am I appalled at Andy Burnham’s Number 10 North?
At best, it is a very expensive gimmick. The civil service are moving people from London to Manchester, so this doesn’t make government decision making more “northern”.
At worst, it is completely inappropriate. In effect the Prime Minister is using taxpayers’ money to boost his own re-election prospects at the next election. It’s also being done whilst there is a by-election taking place for the Manchester mayoralty to replace Andy Burnham. This is an abuse of public money.
The civil service should not have allowed this disgrace to take place. Where will it end? If Kemi Badenoch or Nigel Farage become Prime Minister, are the civil service going to allow a Number 10 Essex to be set up?
Number 10 is in London, close to Parliament, for good reason.
Abusing public money to set up an expensive gimmick to boost your own re-election prospects as your flagship policy is not my idea of a good start for the new Prime Minister.

Number 10 North is a problem for Burnham.
Everyone is aware he's chosen Manchester as that's *his* favourite place. It makes it clear everywhere else is the unloved child.
He doesn't need to win Manchester. He needs red wall seats that lean to Reform. He needs southern marginals where LD look competitive. He needs London where the Greens are eating up the youth vote.
He's chosen to ally in exactly the wrong place. I think he's in trouble.

I welcome action to cut the cost of energy which is too high because of Ed Miliband’s policies.
But the question is how will Burnham fund all his new policies without putting up taxes or borrowing even more.
Until yesterday, Darren Jones was in charge of DigitalID and the Chief Secretary to the PM. So if he tells people the DigitalID programme was unfunded, he will know what he’s talking about. It’s only one day into Burnham’s Government and already the explanations are falling apart. You can’t use the funding from an unfunded programme to pay for cheaper bills.
Conservatives have set out our fully funded Cheap Power Plan that will cut family energy bills by £200, including by cutting their VAT. We are paying for that by getting Britain drilling and scrapping Net Zero policies. John Healey should take a look at it and steal our ideas.
Mark Knight retweeted
Good news that VAT will be cut on electricity bills. It’s a simple way for families to save a few quid, and to mechanically help to keep inflation that little bit lower.
But the DigitalID program was unfunded.
The government will have to set out how it will pay for its new policies at the budget.

Well who wudda thunk it?! The Starmer-Reeves defence spending plan assumes £10 billion in defence ‘efficiencies’/savings — and leaves Andy Burnham to find a further £5 billion for defence in the next Budget for the figures to add up. Starmer-Reeves — shysters til the very end.

Case in point: the Prime Minister just said defence is "a number one priority".
Growth was meant to the number one priority, is it still?
There's not enough money for defence, but today the Government announced £4.5 BILLION for walking and cycling.
