Unprecedented development at the #UNSC on the #WesternSahara file. For the first time, Russia has circulated a rival draft resolution to challenge the US text ahead of today's MINURSO vote. Major escalation in diplomatic maneuvering.
NEW: #Russia circulates rival #UN Security Council draft resolution on #WesternSahara, offering an alternative to the #US text. Both drafts would renew #MINURSO’s mandate until 31 October 2027, but they take notably different approaches to the political process and the mission’s future. Russian draft below.

100 PORTS BEGIN MASSIVE WORK STOPPAGE TO PROTEST ISRAELI ARMS SHIPMENTS A historic work stoppage is beginning at 100 ports across four continents. The video shows workers in Genoa, Italy, blocking a passageway, halting operations at the start of the day. Speeches and protests will begin later today. Over $2 billion dollars worth of cargo will sit idle on October 30th as workers from across 100 ports (and counting) will protest against Isr*eli weapons shipments. In one of the largest coordinated day of actions observed in history, spanning four continents, dockworkers will unite to reject their labour being used for the transfer of weapons of war, specifically weapons used Isr*el for its g*nocide in G*za. According to the "No Harbour for G*nocide" website, dockworker demands are the following: * An immediate end to the g*nocide of the P*lestinian people and all imperialist wars; * No arms, amm*nition, military equipment or troops sent to war through their ports; * No ports turned into military bases, no to rearmament and the war economy; * Instead of we*pons budgets: health and safety measures, real wages, secure jobs, and no automation in place of dockworkers. The demands, known as the "Istanbul Declaration," are signed and endorsed by the following unions: ENEDEP (Greece), USB (Italy), LAB (Basque Country), ODT (Morocco), Liman-İş (Türkiye), CGT (France), SEGDAMELIN-PEO (Cyprus) and WTWFI (India).

UPDATE: Following diplomatic protests, the UN Secretariat has reportedly reversed its decision to close the exhibit. The "50 Years, 50 Faces" Saharawi photo exhibition has officially reopened with its run extended until November 4. #WesternSahara
Outrageous censorship at the @UN . An approved photo exhibit highlighting Saharawi refugees was removed by the UN itself. Morocco claims responsibility for the censorship. The international community must not allow the #WesternSahara story to be silenced.

A photo exhibit at the UN of Sahrawi people in exile, sponsored by Algeria, SoAfrica, Namibia, Belize, Uganda, Timor-Leste & Oxfam, was removed by the UN despite standard approvals, diplomats say. Morocco said it had the display removed. Our email to the UN official responsible for exhibitions didn't reply. instagram.com/p/DfFfmB_I3Xu/
