I almost didn't stop scrolling.
It was one of those alerts. President gave somebody a medal. My thumb was moving. I don't know why I stopped.
The photograph, I think. An old woman holding the medal at her chest. Not proudly. Just holding it. Like she wasn't sure she was allowed to keep it.
Her son had been 24.
He worked in the South Tower. 104th floor. A firm called Sandler O'Neill. He was a trader. In his back pocket that morning was a red bandana, because his dad had given him one when he was a kid and told him to always carry one, and he did.
The plane hit at 9:03.
Down was survival. Everyone knew. Everyone was going down.
He went up.
Three times. To the 78th floor. Fifty people up there, maybe more, I don't remember the exact number in the accounts, coughing in the smoke, unable to find the door. A young man walked in with the bandana tied over his face and told them where to go. Calmly.
He knew where to go because on weekends and early mornings he trained as a volunteer firefighter. Empire Hook and Ladder Number One, Upper Nyack, New York. He didn't talk about it at his desk job. Nobody in the sky lobby knew any of this. Nobody knew his name.
He carried a woman on his back. He got a group to a stairwell. He went back up. He got a second group to a stairwell. He went back up. He was working on a third when the tower came down at 9:59.
His name was Welles Crowther.
His mother didn't know for a long time what he had done. Months. She read the papers every morning looking for something of him. Then one morning she read a New York Times piece by a survivor named Judy Wein, and Judy was describing a man who had appeared in the smoke with a red cloth over his face and led her, calmly, to a stairwell.
Alison Crowther read that sentence.
She called Judy. She sent a picture.
Judy said yeah. That's him.
In my country we have a word for what he did. 義. Gi. It's what you do when nobody has ordered you to do it, when nobody is watching, when the cost is your own life.
Confucius wrote it down 2,500 years ago and it hasn't gotten any easier: to see what is right and not do it is to lack courage.
For four hundred years my ancestors believed the real warrior is the one you don't know is a warrior until he is gone.
I spent a long time in this country looking in the wrong places for men like that. I was watching the ones who talked.
They weren't the ones talking.
They were the ones already up at 5 a.m., at a firehouse, before their day jobs. All 343 firemen who ran into those towers. Officer Moira Smith of the NYPD. Captain Kathy Mazza of the Port Authority. EMT Yamel Merino. The office guys in suits who took a woman in a wheelchair and carried her down 68 flights of stairs. The 24-year-old kid with the bandana.
None of them said out loud what they were doing.
Last Tuesday, twenty-five years after that tower came down, the President of the United States handed Alison Crowther the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her son. Standing next to her was a woman named Ling Young.
Ling Young is alive right now, this week, because a 24-year-old man she had never met, in a building that was on fire, turned around and went back up the stairs.
We have a phrase.
命を惜しむな。名を惜しめ。
Do not spare your life. Spare your name.
He didn't spare his life.
We're not going to lose his name.
Not his mother. Not Ling Young. Not the schoolkids in 40 states who read his story every September. Not me. And not the fathers who slip a red bandana into a small boy's pocket when he is 8 years old and tell him to carry it.
They never quite explain why.
The boy figures it out later.
AI-generated illustration depicting Welles Crowther's actions on the 78th floor of the South Tower. Not an actual photograph from September 11.

Democracy is a poison pill that only absolute midwits venerate and defend
It has only ever made countries worse over time because the average person is a retard who shouldnt have rights
When someone says that they are defending democracy they mean they are defending the illegitimate right to vote given to the millions of foreign parasites who have invaded every western country on the planet

How many Americans know that for eight straight years after September 11, Japanese warships stood in 120-degree heat in the Indian Ocean to pump 135 million gallons of free fuel into the U.S. Navy?
After the twin towers fell in 2001, American carrier strike groups raced to the Arabian Sea to strike terrorist strongholds in Afghanistan.
Why could American warships not simply pull into Middle Eastern ports to refuel? Because just one year earlier, suicide bombers in a small boat had blown a forty-foot hole in the destroyer USS Cole in Yemen. Entering port meant risking ambush and losing days off the front line.
Within weeks of 9/11, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force dispatched its fleet oilers, including JS Towada, JS Tokiwa, and JS Mashu, ten thousand miles from home.
Sailing side by side with U.S. destroyers and cruisers at twelve knots across heavy ocean swells, Japanese sailors shot steel cables across the water and winched thick rubber fuel hoses into American tanks without spilling a single drop.
From December 2001 to January 2010, Japanese crews completed 939 underway refueling operations. They delivered 510,000 kiloliters, roughly 135 million gallons of fuel, plus 11,000 tons of fresh water, entirely paid for by the Japanese taxpayer.
On the final day of the mission in January 2010, American sailors lined the rails of their warship in the blazing sun, took off their caps, and saluted the Japanese crew as the hoses were uncoupled for the last time.
True loyalty does not ask for a camera. It holds the line for eight years in the sun.

Hard to swallow pill: If you’re not prepared to shoot these animals, you will forever be at their mercy.
They understand only power and violence. If you aren’t going to overmatch their violence, they will always have power.
Postmodern liberals want to believe we’ve outgrown such things. We absolutely have not, and never will.
A completely immorally surreal scene in Lyon: France 🇫🇷
A woman begs the rioters to put out the fire they set at the entrance to the building where children are trapped because the firefighters are blocked further down the street by barricades they erected. The protester tells her, "I don't give a damn, we're young, we want rights."

Chad is real, and he’s basically a drug to women.
My buddy is 6’1, jacked, tan, funny, nice, insane game. Basically Terra Chad IRL.
He’s hooked up with 500+ women in NYC. He mostly goes for 4-7s. Why? 8s and 9s require effort. With 4-7s, he barely has to try. He doesn’t spend any money and gets what he wants.
He ghosts them, sends the HR rejection text, moves on… been doing this for many years, as he enjoys it.
Meanwhile they’re left thinking, “I dated a guy like that before. That’s my standard now.”
So the next normal dude is competing with a guy who was never actually competing for her. Now the normie is booking a $500 dinner just to get a chance.
There are MANY such cases.

You need to understand how Right-wing people under 40 view the Left.
When we think of Leftists, we do not think of Barack Obama or Ezra Klein. Yes, these guys are on the Left, but younger Millennials and Zoomers on the Right do not think of Leftists in their own age bracket as polished technocrats.
These are not the sort of people that make up our Left-wing counterparts that we grew up with, went to school with, or work with.
When we think of Leftists, the first thing that pops into our head are a bunch of disgusting, depraved, spiteful mutants who want to destroy everything around them as payback for the crime of being born.
We think of Discord troons that invaded our hobbies, Reddit mods who are drunk on the most insignificant power imaginable, that one girl from high school or college who became a literal Communist, and that friend or family member who cut off all contact because we refused to treat their mental illness like a status symbol.
We think of people who, if they ever became a majority of the country and actually managed to possess political power, would inevitably kill tens of millions of people out of blind envy and petty cruelty.
Younger people on the Right come across as impatient and anxious in their mindset and mannerisms because they understand what will eventually happen when these people succeed their Gen X and Boomer predecessors in the Democratic Party.
They know what is to come if their own generational cohorts on the Left actually take power, and they feel incredibly exasperated that it seems like none of their parents or grandparents understand just how late the hour truly is.

The next 20 years are going to be brutal. You have to choose, do you want to be the side that brutalizes, or the side that get brutalized? We're running out of options.

France is not lost. It is a serious country with the resources and the people needed to restore order, cohesion, and competence. What it lacks right now is the political will to treat its problems as solvable rather than as permanent features of modern life. That will can still be found.
