In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. It says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back.

“Teresa Bejan…has fundamentally re-conceptualised the history of equality; for an historian of political theory there could hardly be a more important achievement.”

I think Fielder’s film intrigues in part because of this. It is difficult to interpret because she embodies the deception we encounter daily with AI: it talks and writes as if it were ensouled, but fundamentally every output is a calculation.
(I mean she is soulless poetically)

Today is the official release date for my new book, First Among Equals: Visions of Equality before Egalitarianism (Belknap, 2026).
It explores how and why “equality” became, rather suddenly, a basis on which ordinary men and women could make political demands in early modern England.

This is completely outrageous and disgusting. This must immediately be blocked by Congress and Trump should be impeached for this. The US is now funding Putin’s war machine as he murders civilians including children. We are lost as a country.
