I think there’s a general feeling among election-heads that MMP is the best possible voting system. But every voting system can produce nutty results. I favour Australia implementing STV in the HoR, but I’m sure there’s potential problems with it that I haven’t considered.
Germany has had to cap the size of its parliament under MMP to stop the growth of overhang seats.

The constant comparison that is made between sprawling new world cities and compact old world cities is not helpful. You can’t turn Atlanta into Barcelona. You can however turn Atlanta into Perth which is just as sprawling but has much higher transit use.
Sprawl makes building useful transit almost impossible.

Too complicated to think in your head imo. I go with: Early: 0,1,2 Mid: 3,4,5,6 Late: 7,8,9 You can further split mid into Early mid: 3,4 Late mid: 5,6 Potentially also Mid mid: 4,5

It’s a great joy of mine to bring traffic to a stop so I can cross the street.
Just witnessed an able, adult male press this button to cross this intersection. Making ~100 cars wait 30 seconds is the destruction of 50 minutes of a human life. Pushing walk buttons is worse than reclining the airline seat. (Parents, handicapped, infirm etc excepted)

I’ll be honest that one is kind of on you guys for also calling your currency “dollars.”

One of the things that struck me listening to the Sherlock Holmes audiobooks, is just how similar people and society was in the late Victorian era vs today.
Growing up, I always felt: 1920s = beginning of the present 1910s = fundamentally alien past

The Handmaiden is better than Fingersmith.
I'm tired and sıck of people saying: “the book was better than the movie.” Give me a movie that was actually WAY BETTER than the book. I want to know which books were so bad that Hollywood had to save them.

I can see four movies a week with AMC A List for less than $30 a month and I have to go into debt to see a Broadway show. It’s that simple.

The Kafka museum in Prague should have one of those cutout things where you stick your face in a hole and it makes you look like a giant bug, but you’re not allowed to take a photo unless you filled out the paperwork at the beginning of the tour, which they don’t tell you

James Bond films released under British Prime Ministers. Alec Douglas-Home, James Callaghan and John Major were all very efficient, with one great film each. It’s unlikely that anyone will beat Margaret Thatcher’s record of six Bond films whilst she was PM.
