WATCH “Stormed In" which reinforces my strong opposition to the heinous, violent, and deadly tactics of Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement operation. I opposed funding Trump's ICE and carried legislation to curb excessive force in immigration operations.

San Diego is in a housing crisis. For years, I’ve said that the NAVWAR campus is one of our best chances to build affordable housing at scale.
Last week I strongly, publicly opposed the plans for a data center here. It wastes a chance to provide more housing or something else that benefits the community.
Plans for the NAVWAR site could include a large data center instead of more housing. NBC 7’s Jackie Crea has the story. trib.al/pWgA7Df

Thank you to @RepScottPeters who has been a longtime leader on common sense energy permitting reform (and so many other important issues). The country is lucky to have someone as substantive and thoughtful as him on Energy and Commerce.
For years, I’ve been working on a simple problem: it takes too long to build the things we need to power America with clean, affordable energy. The bipartisan Senate infrastructure package not only includes my priorities to build more renewable projects, but it also protects ratepayers from rising energy costs.
It’s not perfect, especially with Trump in the White House and his finger on the scale. But he’s a two-year problem. BAAJA solves a three-decade one.

We need more electricity, and we need it cheaper and faster.
The Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act does that AND holds data centers accountable–meaning lower costs for you.

I agree with every word of this.
I’ll add that @RepHuffman will chair the House natural resources committee if Dems win the majority and thus will have the pen on writing the next climate and energy agenda, including trying to change elements of BAAJA he doesn’t like.
But if you kill BAAJA now, you’re back at square one—or worse, since you’ll have alienated all the negotiators who secured this deal.
If/when Dems take the majority, instead of moving forward, you’ll be picking up the pieces of this deal on the pretty thin hope that you can write an entirely new and better one, and somehow get Trump to sign it when he’ll have zero incentive to do so.
The clear move here—including the best way to set Dems up for success next Congress—is to take this (quite strong) deal and hit the ground running next Congress to do more.
I’ve been in the clean energy industry as an entrepreneur for 15 years after a prior career in Dem politics as a bona fide progressive. Without changing many of my views I’ve left that community behind. By far the most frustrating experiences I’ve had on the ground developing solar were in counties run by leftie democrats in my home state of Maryland which is behind now on clean energy goals. They always thought they had a better idea or were smarter than the entire solar community combined. I see that same dynamic with @RepHuffman on permitting reform. Jared, your home state of California is BEHIND on the SB 100 goals. Permits, interconnects, transmission are part of the reason why. THIS is the legislation we believe in. We know our businesses and what removes the rate limiters.
We need to elect politicians who want to BUILD the future. (Oh by the way Maryland Dem legislature eventually passed a great permitting bill.)

I’m glad Chairman Guthrie wants to be involved in the grid and permitting reform conversation now, but he’s late to the party. It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Senate took the lead after he and House Republicans declined to act on the bipartisan bills and ideas that I and others have been pushing. 🧵 1/4
In @PunchbowlNews Midday: Brett Guthrie is looking to assert the House’s role in permitting reform, and he’s insisting on changes to the Senate’s big bipartisan bill before supporting the legislation.

This is barbaric and disturbing. Public executions are something oppressive dictatorships do, not free and fair democracies.
The U.S. military plans to livestream the execution of Nidal Hasan, the ex-Army major who was convicted of the 2009 killing of 13 people at Fort Hood, when he faces a firing squad on Dec. 3, a Pentagon official said.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said earlier Thursday the Pentagon planned to make the execution public.
Hasan's case could mark the military's first execution of an American service member since 1961.

I think it's fair for the Sierra Club to analyze the bill entirely in this green flag / red flag model, but Democrats in congress ought to also consider things like jobs, growth, affordability, and American national security and see that it's not even a remotely close call.

To have energy dominance, you have to be able to build fast.
That’s why Congress should pass permitting reform with the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act.

If we want cheaper energy, we need permitting reform.
If we want to force data centers to pay their fair share and then some, we need permitting reform.
If we want to build out clean energy and the jobs that come with it, we need permitting reform.
And all of that reform is in our Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act.
Let’s get this done.

This thread sums up much of my own thinking on BAAJA specifically and US climate policy more generally. Like David, I’ve been an energy transition advocate for way longer than many of the loudest voices on here. Climate absolutism is a dead end. Let’s take the win!
