Good eyes @hitsamty. Confirmed ... and it sure seems like a full wind-down. Brookfield went from 100+ people in its DC office to about two dozen. Dozens were reportedly laid off. @bisnow has the story: bisnow.com/washington-dc/new…
Did we know that Brookfield was winding down its DC office? They've taken bath after bath in that market – Bisnow recently had something about an 87% hit in Bethesda – but shutting down shop there is news to me.

Bank failures don’t usually start with a bang. This one started with a small CRE loan, a lot of extensions and zero margin for error. Here's how the first U.S. bank failure of 2026 unraveled.

Speaking at Bisnow’s Atlanta 2026 CRE Market Kickoff this morning, Jamestown principal and CFO Chris Kopecky said his firm is shifting capital to Europe instead of the U.S. as its global investors grow increasingly uneasy. At an LP meeting in New York after Liberation Day, one institutional investor told him their investment committee won’t allocate to either China or the U.S., while another predicted sweeping geopolitical changes (U.S. takes Greenland, China takes Taiwan, Russia takes Ukraine) and the euro becoming the world’s dominant currency. The common thread wasn’t ideology but confidence: “The administration is not trusted around the world,” Kopecky said.

Under a pure CRE underwriting lens, Greenland would be a distressed asset ... high carry, declining NOI (shrimp), rising capex and optionality doing way more work than cash flow.
"Greenlandic officials quietly concede that, in the short term at least, anyone running this island is more likely to find themselves staring down a money pit rather than a gold mine." wsj.com/world/europe/welcome…
