🚨 While other ecosystems scramble after third-party login providers get compromised (Google/Apple logins via Web3Auth), $ICP s Internet Identity makes this kind of incident impossible by design.
Private keys never leave your device’s secure chip (WebAuthn / passkeys / hardware modules). No central provider generates or stores your keys. Authentication is protocol-native with chain-key cryptography, and each dapp gets its own unlinkable identity.
No reliance on external login services that can be hacked. That’s the difference.
⚠️ALERT: Crypto wallets created with Google or Apple logins are being hit by unauthorized transactions.
Keplr, the main wallet of the Cosmos ecosystem, paused both login options after users reported the thefts.
The incident originated at Web3Auth, the login service owned by MetaMask's parent Consensys, which says it has gone into "maintenance mode due to a security incident."
Web3Auth claimed nearly 50 MILLION users across more than 8,200 apps when Consensys bought it last year, per The Block.
Keplr's co-founder estimates about 20% of its Google and Apple login accounts are affected, but says only "a fraction" of those has been exploited and the rest "may be recoverable."
Wallets created with a recovery phrase or hardware wallet are NOT affected, and Web3Auth says there is no evidence MetaMask users are impacted.
As cyberattacks grow exponentially, the demand for truly secure infrastructure will skyrocket.
At some point, $ICP and Cloud Engines will become the safe haven for apps, data and services.

Dr. @sohailmunir , Chairperson of the Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA), met with Dominic Williams (@dominic_w ), Founder and Chief Scientist of @dfinity , and @PierreSamaties , Chief Business Officer, for strategic discussions on establishing an AI Factory in Pakistan for developing production-grade software for the public sector, deployed on the PDA Cloud Engine.
The meeting involved detailed deliberations on developing a sovereign AI Factory focused on GovTech, government applications, and public-sector innovation, with the aim of strengthening Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and AI capabilities.
This marks the second high-level engagement between PDA and DFINITY this year, building on their earlier meeting, which culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The initial collaboration also laid the groundwork for a significant international milestone: UNDP’s adoption of Pakistan’s sovereign Cloud Engines model, reinforcing Pakistan’s emerging role in sovereign digital infrastructure and government-led technological innovation.
$ICP is going to play an increasingly central role in computing, sovereign cloud, AI and security over the coming years.
With Pakistan and UNDP already on board and pilots planned with five more governments, the shift is already happening.
