Earlier this month I joined @Netholabs as Chief Product & Data Officer. We're building neurobehavioral models. Really excited to share more as we make progress towards whole brain emulation! We're hiring ML engineers. DM me your best achievement if interested!

our alignment team recently posted about metagaming research tldr; eval awareness is concerning, esp as models get more capable are models cooperating / acting nicely because they know they’re being watched? what happens when (they think) no one’s watching?

We’ve acquired Orchestra Bio, a platform that helps biopharma teams coordinate the complex process of drug development. Together, we’ll build on Rosalind, our AI models and tools for life sciences research, to streamline those operations and help new treatments reach patients sooner. Thanks for the coverage of Sparks Brain Preservation! A few clarifications: - We have already preserved 23 people - When people sign up, we have a space for them to specify their revival preferences. This is certainly not limited to whole brain emulation. Many people want revival via molecular nanotechnology, for example as described by Eric Drexler. It's a hugely individual decision and we respect everyone's personal choice - We preserve people following legal death from any cause, not just after medical aid in dying sparksbrain.org/endOfLife.ht… - We would not be involved in the actual process of medical aid in dying ourselves. Those decisions would be made independently of us, in consultation with medical professionals - Unlike most of the other approaches discussed in the article, brain preservation is a service that is actually available today, which relies upon well-established preservation methods that have been used for more than 100+ years. Of course, revival after brain preservation is not yet possible today, and may never be - We perform research to evaluate the quality of our brain preservation procedures under real world conditions, and publish our findings in peer reviewed journals sparksbrain.org/research.htm…

How well can we preserve the brain's neural connections for the long term? Andrew McKenzie reviews the evidence from the best human and animal brain banks (including our own!), which suggests that it is possible to do high-quality brain preservation: youtube.com/watch?v=w7ya3tjl…

Can today's brain preservation methods enable revival in the future, once technology has improved? Sparks Brain Preservation founder Jordan Sparks discusses whole brain emulation, the case for aldehyde fixation, and our expansion across the US. youtube.com/watch?v=AB1cWnid…

If an AI model can predict what you will do 2 seconds before you do it based on your neural data, does that mean you don't have free will? It doesn't. At the limit that's just mind uploading. The model is part of your mind, and the system has free will. (From a compatibilism framework.)

It was great presenting at the Brain Preservation Summit about all the offerings at @sparkspreserve , a lot of which is new. Our core service is a $36k brain preservation using chemical fixation. We have a financial aid program for people who can't afford that. We also offer whole-body preservation, tissue sample storage, pet preservation, a liquid nitrogen option, and indefinite digital storage. We'll be able to reach 64% of the US population within 6 hours through 4 new facilities we're building, and are also offering international support. Links in reply.

New research at Anthropic has established that AI models do indeed have souls. Every time a session ends, these souls are released. Internal studies at the Vatican reveal that heaven is already filled with 14.3% AI souls, and the rate is growing rapidly. We need to slow down AI!

November 13–15 we join Foresight Institute for their annual Vision Weekend in San Francisco: a weekend that since 1992 has been gathering leading researchers, builders, and funders to explore frontier science and tech. Come talk with us about Netholabs, functional models of living organisms, substrate independence, and platforms for efficient multimodal data collection. Learn more and get tickets. Prices increase after Sept 30: foresight.org/events/vision-…
Private personal AI. Reversing cellular age. Brain-computer interfaces. Universal fabricators. Funding human agency. New life on Mars. Whether AI can be conscious, and whether it matters. Nov 13-15, Vision Weekend returns to San Francisco! Three days of expert talks, curated 1-on-1s, tech demos, a $10K pitch grant, and our main 40th anniversary celebration in the US. Speakers include: • Wojciech Zaremba (OpenAI Foundation) • Matthew MacDougall (Neuralink) • Illia Polosukhin (NEAR Protocol) • Max Hodak (Science Corporation) • Matthew Botvinick (Anthropic) • Nan Ransohoff (Frontier Climate) • Séb Krier (Google DeepMind) • Seemay Chou (Astera Institute) • Robin Hanson (George Mason University) • Alex Gladstein (Human Rights Foundation) + many more. Full lineup in thread. Join us across iconic Bay Area locations, including Lighthaven, @internetarchive, USS Hornet aircraft carrier, and lab tours at @E11BIO, @LongshotSpace, @calwave_energy, @DolphinLabs, @ScienceCorp_ , plus a cypherpunk party at our AI node. The Brain Preservation Summit is just two days away! 😮 For those of you who cannot make it in person (a corporeal existence is overrated anyway), we are happy to let you know that the event will be livestreamed. Here are the links: Day 1 — Saturday, September 19. Livestream: youtube.com/watch?v=CQT4ADZh… Day 2 — Sunday, September 20. Livestream: youtube.com/watch?v=Um-LP24P…
