Many congratulations, Burco! 🎉 Burco University has won Somaliland’s Tech Expo 2026. Burco introduced a very innovative system called “Bajaaj Mareeye”, designed to manage and control tuk-tuks (Bajaaj). It also offers benefits for traffic management, tax revenue collection, accident prevention, and much more. This system is particularly valuable for addressing Somaliland’s growing traffic challenges. A fantastic achievement by Burco University and a proud moment for Somaliland

Balcad has just made a big move by denying what the Zoomalians doing which was lying about the history. Somalia’s own state foreign minister has confirmed their was NO “ Somalia Country “ Before 1960 and he added the two “ Somaliland and Somalia “ were two different countries that gained independence on 1960. Since 1960 till now they were spreading lies about the history of Somaliland. though there was no union at all. @dwnews @AJENews @BBCWorld @SkyNews

“Hadaan shimbro ka baqayo hadhuudh ma beerteen” In another words:- Strength, expressed through presence and resolvement. “Our ambition has never been merely the pursuit of recognition; recognition was the first step toward the greater goal of building a nation endowed with economic power, military strength, technological capability, diplomatic influence, and strategic capacity…”
𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧: 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧, 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 Somaliland's relationship with the United States has developed into an increasingly visible foreign-policy issue in Washington. Both Republicans and Democrats have engaged with Somaliland, but their approaches differ on the question of independence and formal recognition. 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡: 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 Republican engagement has increasingly shifted toward explicit advocacy for Somaliland’s right to self-determination and recognition, focusing on the strategic benefits of separating Washington's Somaliland policy from its engagements in Mogadishu. This approach emphasizes Somaliland's role as a reliable security and economic partner that directly opposes Chinese influence in the region. Key Legislative and Diplomatic Examples: - H.R. 3992 – Republic of Somaliland Independence Act (2025): Introduced by Representative Scott Perry (R-PA), this bill explicitly proposed to authorize the U.S. government to formally recognize Somaliland as a sovereign and independent nation. - H.R. 7993 – Somaliland Economic Access and Opportunity Act: A legislative initiative attributed to Representative John Rose (R-TN), focused on providing Somaliland direct financial, trade, and international banking access independent of Somalia. - Congressional Delegations (CODELs) to Hargeisa: Senior Republican members, including Representative Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Representative Scott Perry (R-PA), have led influential oversight delegations to Hargeisa and Berbera, assessing maritime security, counterterrorism, and port infrastructure to lay the groundwork for a separate bilateral partnership. - Countering Chinese Influence & National Security: Prominent Republicans, such as Representatives Chris Smith and John Moolenaar, have highlighted Somaliland as a crucial check on China’s growing presence in the Red Sea. They called for a separate U.S. travel advisory for Somaliland and direct engagement to secure vital maritime routes in the Gulf of Aden. - FY2024 State & Foreign Operations Appropriations Directives: Republican leaders on the House Appropriations Committee authored report language encouraging the State Department to evaluate diplomatic and security engagement options in Somaliland separately from Mogadishu. 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡: 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Democratic engagement has generally focused on practical cooperation, regional stability and development, without necessarily supporting formal recognition. Key areas include: - Security and counterterrorism cooperation. - Democratic governance and peaceful elections. - Trade, investment and economic development. - Humanitarian assistance and regional stability. - Senate Sponsorship of the Somaliland Partnership Act: Key Democratic Senators including Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) co-sponsored and advanced Senate initiatives requiring formal U.S. reporting and feasibility studies on deepening direct security and maritime ties with Somaliland. - NDAA FY2023 Security Report Mandate (Section 1275): Under Democratic committee leadership, Section 1275 was codified into the signed FY2023 National Defense Authorization Act, legally requiring the Department of Defense and State Department to submit annual feasibility reports on security partnerships with Somaliland. - High-Level USAFRICOM & Military Engagement: Executive defense leaders under Democratic administration oversight, including USAFRICOM Commander Gen. Stephen Townsend, conducted official visits to Hargeisa and Berbera Port to review tactical air, medical evacuation, and Red Sea maritime security capabilities. - Direct Diplomatic & Electoral Support: Democratic foreign policy leads push for direct USAID and State Department engagement in Somaliland, funding election observation, supporting civil society, promoting trade development, and maintaining direct diplomatic channels with Hargeisa outside of Mogadishu's central control. - House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee Hearings: Democratic committee leaders have organized formal subcommittee hearings examining Horn of Africa strategy, giving platform to discussions on expanding U.S. direct ties, educational exchanges, and commercial links with Somaliland. 𝐁𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 The strongest evidence of cross-party cooperation comes from congressional initiatives that focus on shared American interests. When national security, Red Sea maritime protection, counterterrorism, and opposition to Chinese influence are at stake, lawmakers from both parties have repeatedly united to advance U.S.–Somaliland cooperation. Key Bipartisan Initiatives and Joint Frameworks: - Somaliland Partnership Act (S. 3861, 2022): Introduced by Republican Senator Jim Risch along with Republican Senator Mike Rounds and Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen, this landmark bipartisan legislation proposed mandatory annual reporting and a formal feasibility study on establishing a direct U.S.–Somaliland defense and maritime security partnership without requiring immediate formal recognition. - Enactment of NDAA FY2023 (Section 1275): Bipartisan leadership across both the House and Senate Armed Services Committees successfully codified the Somaliland Partnership Act's core objectives into federal law. Signed into law by President Biden, Section 1275 legally mandated the Department of Defense (DoD) and State Department to submit comprehensive annual reports on deepening security engagement with Somaliland. - House Bipartisan Diplomatic Letter (March 2022): Key foreign policy leads including Republican Representative Michael McCaul and Democratic Representative Tom Malinowski joined a broad coalition of lawmakers in an official letter urging Secretary of State Antony Blinken to expand diplomatic, economic, and security ties with Somaliland independently of Mogadishu. - Strategic National Security & Red Sea Alignment: Lawmakers across party lines consistently align on the critical geopolitical importance of the Gulf of Aden, Berbera Port, and Berbera Airport. Both Republicans and Democrats view direct cooperation with Somaliland as essential for securing vital maritime trade routes, maintaining regional stability, and countering China’s expanding military footprint in neighboring Djibouti. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐔.𝐒. 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 The Congressional Research Service has also examined Somaliland separately in its analysis of U.S. policy towards Somalia. It recognises Somaliland's de facto self-governance while explaining Washington's continuing formal position on Somalia's territorial integrity. This distinction is important: increased engagement does not automatically mean diplomatic recognition. 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞 Somaliland should pursue five priorities : - Engage both parties: Build lasting relationships with Republican and Democratic lawmakers, particularly on Foreign Affairs, Armed Services and Appropriations Committees. - Lead with national security: Highlight Berbera Port, Red Sea shipping, counterterrorism and maritime security. - Promote bipartisan legislation: Encourage joint congressional initiatives, letters, hearings and policy briefings. - Strengthen institutional engagement: Work with think tanks, former diplomats, security experts and relevant U.S. government institutions. - Maintain a consistent message: Present Somaliland as a potential strategic partner whose importance to American interests deserves consideration, while continuing to make the case for recognition. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 The distinction in Washington is clear: Republicans have been more vocal in advancing formal recognition, Democrats have generally emphasised institutional cooperation without endorsing independence, and both parties have demonstrated interest in Somaliland's strategic importance. Somaliland's long-term objective should be to move beyond partisan support and establish a sustained bipartisan relationship with the United States, grounded in national security, democratic governance, economic opportunity and regional stability.

I strongly support the Somaliland Police Force adopting a new emblem that better reflects the national identity. 👇🏽
We recommend that the Somaliland Police Force replace its current blue emblem with this proposed design, which better reflects the national colors and identity of the Republic of Somaliland. @S_LANDPolice @SomalilandMod @SomalilandMod

Reports coming out of Somalia say that several Somali police officers were killed after being sucked into an aircraft engine in Dhusamareeb tonight. The incident reportedly happened after the aircraft doors were opened while its engines were still running at high power. This raises serious questions about aviation safety procedures, ground operations, and regulatory oversight in Somalia. Poor aviation safety standards and inadequate enforcement continue to raise serious concerns. @icao @IATA @FAASafetyBrief @FAANews @UK_CAA @EASA

We really need to support the government of Somaliland to regain control of our national electricity. I have compared ownership of NE on neighbouring countries and we are the only ones that has only private ownership. ( OWNERSHIP) 🇪🇹 Public owned - 🇰🇪 Public/Private owned - 🇺🇬 Public/Private owned 🇹🇿 - Public owned🇷🇼 Public owned 🇩🇯 - Public owned 🇪🇷 - Public owned…….. ( Cost per KWh ) 🇪🇹 per KWh is $0.04 - 🇰🇪 per KWh is $0.14 - 🇺🇬 per KWh is $0.20 - 🇹🇿 per KWh is $0.087 🇷🇼 per KWh is $0.24 - 🇩🇯 per KWh is $0.55 🇪🇷 per KWh is $0.24 ……….. That shows we already have the highest in the region with no justification and the government MUST regain control of it. Let’s support the movement. @Abdirahmanirro @khadarlooge @SLMoEM @MMSomalitv @BarkhadBatuun

When it comes to relations with external powers, these countries rely on them for their own internal affairs and security. But when it comes to Somaliland’s relations with external powers, they call it exploitation and interference. Somalian President, speaking to Bloomberg about Somalia’s security: “Al-Shabaab will never get back to Muqdisho. Turkey promised.” Djiboutian Prime Minister, speaking to Le Point about Djibouti’s security: “Don’t forget that we also have a defence agreement with France.”

Welcome Home Ambassador A milestone for both Somaliland and Israel

#UPDATE 🚨 The handling of this diplomatic milestone by @somalilandmfa was a serious failure! The optics of Israeli Ambassador @LotemMichael being brought into Somaliland in what appeared to be a covert operation, simply to present his credentials to President @Abdirahmanirro, with official communication days later, were entirely miscalculated. Somaliland has spent decades building its hard won reputation for peace, stability and security. Its diplomacy should reflect that confidence, not create the impression that legitimate diplomatic engagement needs to happen in the shadows. No photo opportunity is worth the damage to the image, credibility and international standing of the Republic of Somaliland!
President @Abdirahmanirro officially received and accepted the credentials of Israel’s Ambassador Michael Lotem in Hargeisa, Somaliland!

I am honoured to receive the Letters of Credence of H.E. Mr. Michael Lotem, the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel @Israel to the Republic of Somaliland, marking a historic milestone in our diplomatic relations. As the first Ambassador accredited to Somaliland by a United Nations Member State, his appointment heralds a new chapter in Israel–Somaliland relations, founded on mutual respect, friendship, and a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and partnership.

Israel’s Ambassador to Somaliland, Michael Lotem, presented his credentials to President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi last week in a historic ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa. The ceremony marks another important step in strengthening relations between Israel and Somaliland, following their mutual recognition on December 26, 2025. Since then, ties between the two countries have continued to develop. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar made a historic visit to Somaliland in January 2026, while Somaliland opened its embassy in Jerusalem during President Abdullahi’s visit to Israel in June 2026. Following the presentation of credentials, a cornerstone-laying ceremony was held for Israel’s new embassy in Hargeisa. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said: “Israel is determined to develop and strengthen its relations with Somaliland. “The appointment of ambassadors, in accordance with the agreement reached when our countries established mutual recognition, is another important step in deepening the ties between us.”
