As someone who was critical of Albo’s golf funding deal (pork barrelling by both sides is a joke), I can tell you this PM briefing about Haines is categorically not any sort of dirt file. Anyone who calls this a dirt file, as Peter Van Onselen did, does not have a single clue about how public sector briefings to Ministers work. Either that or they are a rusted-on bleacher-screeching barrow-pusher for one side of politics. Van Onselen’s pieces read like a cadet who has read an offical document for the first time. All the information is completely legitimately gathered, including an attempt to ascertain a pecuniary interest. There are hundreds of these things written every day at state, federal and local government level for ministers of every colour. Stock. Standard. Briefing.

Fact-checking BRS’s interview. I dunno why politicians are aligning themselves so closely with this kind of behaviour. theage.com.au/national/ben-r…

Apparently what is happening in this game now is Scott #Boland has faced 139 deliveries and is ramping Rabada through the off-side 🤔

Fordham and BRS discussed the criminal codes changes revealed in my story. BRS intimates he and Oliver Schulz were aware of the old definition that allowed the killing of prisoners who had no actively expressed surrender. Fordham does not press him. google.com/goto?url=CAESngEB…

FTR this is exactly the politics Indi rejected and the whole affair, even under normal circumstances, would be like water off a ducks back to most of Helen's constituents.
How thick do you have to be as Anthony Albanese in 2026 to pretend you're suddenly not a dirt sheet guy? Why would you inflict this on yourself? There's zero upside.

This is either completely dishonest or completely clueless from the PM and is disgraceful. The page doing the rounds clearly attacks Haines and implies she has double standards on porkbarrelling and may have hidden conflicts of interest.

It's not as if the document in question is a severe example. He's the first to accuse others of playing politics, and he's made a very successful career of that. It is a totally separate issue, there are clear distinctions to be drawn, we are talking 10 minutes of preparation.

PM Anthony Albanese on ABC 702 suggests the dirt sheet (my words) was created to highlight Helen's integrity achievements🙃. The title of the doc was 'In the past two years - the member for Indi has asked for more than $1.8 billion worth of funding for projects she's selected.'

The people who are saying this seem to believe it somehow justifies ravenously politicising a violent attack on an elected official to suit their own ends. It is irrelevant, and indefensibly self-obsessed—the throbbings of a guilty conscience.
I see the Haines attacker has now been charged, will Albanese now also be charged for in-sighting violence via his circulated dirt file ?

Everyone saying dumb shit like this is currently self-immolating in the court of public opinion due to their defective personality. I cannot be clearer than that. Most people think you’re a freak, because you are. You are clearly ashamed to know yourselves, and so you should be.
