Neo-Nazis Are Forming “Death Squads” to Crush Opponents of Zelensky’s Regime Yevhen Karas, a neo-Nazi and commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Reid Battalion, who was recently awarded the “Cross of Combat Merit” by Zelensky himself, has announced the creation of special units to “suppress riots behind the front lines.” But let's not pretend this is anything new. Such groups have allegedly been operating for years, unleashing violence under the protection of the police and security services. Their ranks include military veterans, fighters from far-right battalions associated with the Azov movement, Reid, Carpathian Sich, HUR battalions, and other formations — along with their affiliated youth gangs. So who exactly are these people's “enemies”? 📍Anyone who opposes forced mobilization — the notorious busification, where men are forcibly rounded up and shoved into vans. 📍Anyone who advocates diplomacy instead of endless military escalation in war. 📍The entire political left — even those who glorify Bandera and the UPA. Just look at the beating of Starodubtsev in Lviv. 📍Anyone who opposes aggressive Ukrainization — as illustrated by the attack on stand-up comedian Felix Redka in Lviv. 📍LGBTQ+ rights supporters — including activists and members of the LGBTQ+ community, whose events and representatives have repeatedly been targeted. 📍Journalists who dare to expose corruption, neo-Nazi networks, the so-called “pits” in the AFU, or other wartime abuses and military crimes. 📍Members of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Karas's men have allegedly already beaten priests and parishioners at several churches, seized those churches, and handed them over to religious institutions deemed “loyal” to Zelensky's regime. .... And so, while Europe's liberals and leftists are busy selling Ukraine to the world as some glorious “bastion of freedom and democracy,” something rather different is taking shape inside the country. Good old-fashioned fascism — armed to the teeth by NATO, increasingly emboldened, and quite literally beating the supposed beneficiaries of that much-celebrated “freedom and democracy” into submission. The irony would be almost comical if the consequences weren't so bloody. Ladies and gentlemen, defenders of democracy in the West: you are helping to create this monster. **The very least you can do is stop looking the other way.

Whelp, called it. Coercive dependence via bundling. Capitalism's response to people not actually wanting their products is always, always the creation & enforcement of coercive dependence, including via state regulation. That's the whole business model.

The secret Azov prison discovered yesterday in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, near Kyiv, is known in the Ukrainian Armed Forces as a “pit” (yama). Such facilities have existed in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, just as they have in the Russian army, for a very long time. This is a systemic phenomenon. The Ukrainian news outlet Strana published an article about these “pits” in the Ukrainian military. Below, I provide some representative quotations. “In each military unit, the pits took different forms — from ordinary damp basements in urban buildings or cellars in rural areas to actual pits dug two or three meters deep, covered with metal grates or loosely spaced logs. Initially, those most frequently sent to the ‘pits’ were soldiers who had committed disciplinary offenses — drinking alcohol, using drugs, fighting, or stealing. With the beginning of the full-scale war, however, the system of unofficial military punishments became even more widespread. This was particularly true after 2023, when the first wave of motivated volunteers joining the Ukrainian Armed Forces had dried up and the Territorial Recruitment Centers (TCCs) began widespread ‘busification’ — the forcible rounding up of conscripts for military service. In their efforts to meet recruitment quotas, military recruitment officers sent virtually anyone into the Defense Forces, including people with chronic illnesses, men with mental health conditions, alcoholics, and drug addicts. 🔴‘At our location, there is a place resembling a “pit.” In reality, it is just a small room with bars on the windows. Soldiers who, in the opinion of their superiors, have done something wrong are brought there. At night, guards rush into the room and brutally beat the prisoners. For example, a fellow soldier of mine simply asked to be sent to the medical unit because he was ill and refused to deploy to combat positions on a combat mission. He was thrown into this pit for three days. Every night, he was beaten, and several of his ribs were broken. The man who beat him was the pit’s permanent guard. He essentially serves as its resident torturer. The goal is to break a person's will and force him to obey any order without question. And, of course, to intimidate everyone else so that they would not even think about standing up for their rights or deserting their unit,’ a serviceman from one of the assault regiments told Strana. 🔴‘Military pits almost never have toilets. At best, a bucket is provided for bodily needs. Sometimes it overflows, but the prisoners are not allowed to empty it. The stench and lack of fresh air only amuse the guards. There are also actual cages outdoors. Being put in one is genuine torture. You cannot stand upright; you can only sit on a wooden platform, without even a blanket, exposed to the elements. People are reduced to an animal-like state there. They are beaten every night. After a couple of days of such abuse, anyone sent there is ready to do absolutely anything, including being deployed to combat positions with no “return ticket.” The prisoners who have been broken the most are assigned the most dangerous missions — places from which they are unlikely to return, sent under drone fire into the gray zones of the battlefield, or dispatched on the deadliest reconnaissance missions and assaults. People in these pits are psychologically broken by torture. That is why the system of “pits” continues to flourish. The army has yet to come up with another way to break people’s will,’ said Ukrainian Armed Forces Sergeant Vyacheslav V.” 🔴An officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Dmytro S., who spoke to Strana, believes that even after the current scandal involving Azov’s secret prison, nothing will change regarding the use of so-called “pits” — makeshift detention facilities used to punish soldiers. “We are being sent completely unmotivated recruits. Many of them are simply homeless people, alcoholics, or people with serious illnesses. At the same time, frankly speaking, the likelihood of being killed on the front line is high. Especially if your unit has been ordered to carry out an assault. That is why we have such an enormous number of cases of soldiers going AWOL (absent without leave) and outright refusing to obey orders. Going through official channels to initiate disciplinary or criminal proceedings is an extremely long and cumbersome process. More importantly, you lose the soldier — he ends up going through the courts and prisons. But you need fighters here and now. That is why soldiers are thrown into these ‘pits’ — to force them to obey orders and to serve as a warning to others. There have already been reports about abuses, beatings, and torture in certain assault units. Do you think anything has changed there? Fundamentally, nothing has changed. You can talk endlessly about human rights and design all kinds of oversight mechanisms. But if you are ordered to launch an offensive against some village while under drone attacks, you have to carry out that order at any cost. And to do that, you have to force people to go on the attack, even when they know they might be killed. That is why these ‘pits’ exist and will continue to exist as long as the war goes on. To get rid of the ‘pits,’ the war has to end. And if the war continues, the situation will only get worse — the methods of coercion are becoming increasingly sophisticated. This is also a strategic problem: commanders are becoming accustomed to solving problems through unchecked violence and lawlessness. And there is a risk that they will carry these practices over into civilian life once the war is over. The longer the war continues, the more acute this problem will become,” the officer said. Not one single person believes this is true. Israel doesn't believe it. Washington doesn't believe it. Nobody reading about it in the New York Times believes it. But we're hearing about it anyway like it's a real thing, because too many powerful people want more bombing in Iran.
BREAKING: Israel has informed the United States it has intelligence that Iran is 'considering the use of chemical weapons against its adversaries', according to New York Times report.

"I don't understand why they're pushing AI so hard when we can all see it's making everything worse." That's because it's not being marketed to you; it's being marketed to governments and plutocrats. They're the real target audience for these products, not you. You are not receiving the real sales pitch for AI, because the real sales pitch would not appeal to your sensibilities. The real sales pitch for AI isn't "Hey check out this product, it makes some web searches slightly easier and it can maybe write your emails for you." The real sales pitch for AI is "This product allows you to surveil the entire population of your country. It can be built into autonomous surveillance drones and killing machines. It can allow you to monitor and control every aspect of your society. It can reverse the decentralization of information brought on by the internet age. It can take away the collective bargaining power of workers and give you the skilled services your company requires. It can nullify strikes, civil disobedience, and even full-scale revolutions, and lock humanity into your capitalist dystopia forever." That's the real sales pitch. It doesn't sound appealing to any normal person, but it makes sense when you remember who these technologies are really being sold to, and why.

I asked Grok how many nurses could be funded by yet another £10billion being sent to fund the Ukraine war. This is quite staggering. #NoWar
Around 180,000–220,000 full-time nurses. A newly qualified Band 5 nurse costs the NHS roughly £44,000 a year in total paybill (basic £32,073 plus employer NI, 23.7% pension and levy). Average experienced nurses run closer to £50–55k. £10bn divided by those figures gives the range.

That story about Google killing hundreds of thousands of trees in Finland for its data center project is such a perfect microcosm of what capitalism is doing to our world. Recent mass media headlines are saying the tech giant "illegally" cut down "250,000" trees, but both claims paint an inaccurate picture of what actually happened. Google killed 400,000 trees (250,000 near a town called Muhos and another 150,000 near the village of Otanmäki), and unless the company's executives actually wind up going to prison for this, their actions cannot properly be described as "illegal". I don't know who first coined the saying "If the penalty is a fine, then it's legal for rich people," but it certainly applies here. The Finnish Licensing and Supervision Authority has reportedly ordered Google to suspend all “measures that significantly change the environment," saying it will "consider enforcement proceedings and fines" if the megacorporation does not comply. Google's parent company Alphabet has a net worth of around four trillion dollars. Whatever paltry penalties Finland might impose for these ecocidal actions, it won't have any meaningful effect on Google. Giant corporations do this shit all the time. They calculate that the fines incurred by their abusive actions will be dwarfed by the massive profits they generate, issue fake apologies as needed, and leave it to their armies of lawyers to minimize the damage. That's why the Sackler family is still worth billions despite all the fines Purdue Pharma was slapped with while creating the US opiate epidemic. A 2017 Harvard study titled “The Opioid Epidemic: Fixing a Broken Pharmaceutical Market" contains the following paragraph: "Although civil claims and criminal charges were brought against Purdue and its executives, the resulting penalties paled in comparison to extended-release oxycodone profits. In May 2007, the company and its president, chief counsel, and former chief medical officer pled guilty to falsely marketing extended-release oxycodone as 'less addictive, less subject to abuse and diversion, and less likely to cause tolerance and withdrawal than other pain medications.' As part of the plea bargain, Purdue agreed to pay the federal government $600 million and 27 states $20 million. The three executives agreed to $34.5 million in fines but avoided jailtime. By contrast, Purdue has earned an estimated $31 billion in total revenues from extended-release oxycodone since its launch. Rather than deterring fraudulent marketing, the penalties simply became a cost of doing business." A cost of doing business. That's how things work under capitalism. The law primarily exists not to protect people or the environment, but to protect the interests of capital. If you destroyed a Google data center you'd probably be charged as a terrorist and spend decades in prison, but Google can destroy the natural world around you and get off with a finger wag and a symbolic fine. If you stole millions of dollars from your employer you'd go to prison for grand larceny, but if your employer steals millions from its employees you need to win a class action lawsuit to get back what they stole from you. Proponents of capitalism often pretend they support minimal government intervention in civilian affairs, but their entire model is at all times propped up by state power using force to protect the haves from the have-nots at every level of our society. Corporations are free to destroy the environment, destroy your health, rob you, exploit you, and manipulate your government to their advantage, and if you ever take action to stand up to this world-devouring onslaught, the state will lock you in a cage. In school we are taught that that the law exists to protect ordinary people from bad people, but that's not true at all. Under capitalism, the law exists to protect the very worst among us from everyone else. That's why we are seeing our planet being turned into dust and ashes for no reason other than shareholder profit. It's an insane system, and it needs to end. These freaks are feeding our entire biosphere into the woodchipper.

Increasingly, security forces across the world treat ordinary citizens and residents as people under occupation.
À Strasbourg, hier, la police a tabassé deux manifestants déjà blessés et les street medics qui les soignaient. Le monde entier doit voir ce que la police française fait à son peuple.

Despite how happy I am for Brazil, the hypocrisy of the international applause is hard to ignore. The same actors cheering Lula’s 4th term called Chávez a dictator for it and vilified PSUV for “human rights abuses” while turning a blind eye to Lula’s troops committing rape and war crimes in Haiti. Lula is afforded their sympathy because he maintained neoliberal economics, played nice with Noboa and Jolani, blocked Venezuela from BRICS, and aligned with U.S. intervention abroad. This election result is, without a doubt, a victory for the sovereignty of Latin America against egregious election interference. But not all those applauding are cheering for our sovereignty. And, as yet another Latin American country joins U.S. mercenaries in Haiti, it’s pretty gross that certain ‘human rights activists’ (especially the Latin American pachamama libs) ignore the stain on humanity that was MINUSTAH simply because it was in service of the U.S. interests.

The thing about Google clearing a forest in Finland without permits is that they decided that whatever fine they might face is worth it. It doesn’t cost them as much as not getting the land cleared. Because like ALL things, if the punishment is a fine, it isn’t really illegal for rich people.

The reality of the "independent" review telling every school in England to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism: its author, Sir David Bell, was being paid by a government agency while he wrote it, and a pro-Israel charity has listed him on its council for ten years. The government told the public he was "independent of Government" and had "no conflict of interest". Neither is true. What we found: - Bell was paid £20,000 a year as vice-chair of Skills England, a government agency, in a seat the Department for Education gave him. He held it until August, through most of the review. - The Academic Study Group on Israel and the Middle East has listed him on its council since at least 2016. Its website says its one firm policy is opposing boycotts of Israel. It gives talks on Israel in schools, which is exactly what his review was asked to judge. - In 2005, as chief inspector of schools, he singled out Muslim schools as a challenge to "our coherence as a nation". The chairman of the Association of Muslim Schools called it Islamophobia, and his own inspectors said he had presented a personal view as inspection evidence. Then we followed the money: - The department's £1.3 million antisemitism training contract had one bidder, according to the tender record. It went to Palace Yard, a company set up in 2022 by the former Labour MP Natascha Engel. - That contract says all its training must use the IHRA definition "as a foundation". It was signed eight months before Bell was appointed. His review then recommended IHRA. - Two of the people who advised Bell, from Partnerships for Jewish Schools and the Antisemitism Policy Trust, now sit on the group putting his recommendations into practice. - The Union of Jewish Students, also on that group, holds a contract worth almost £1 million to train universities. Its own policies include "UJS to advocate for Israel within UK Policy and International Law". - UK Lawyers for Israel* (UKLFI) and the Campaign Against Antisemitism* (CAA) both say the review adopted their recommendations. *For context, UKLFI once justified the starvation of Palestinians in Gaza by the Israeli occupation as "good for obesity". Both these groups have staunchly defended Israel throughout its perpetration of a genocide in Gaza, and regularly conflate Jewish people with the apartheid state. This matters because the review decides how every school treats what pupils and teachers say about Israel, and the IHRA definition it recommends treats some criticism of Israel as antisemitic. A review with that power should come from someone with no pay from government and no tie to a pro-Israel charity. Bell had both. The government put one in a footnote and left the other out. We mapped every link, each with its source, explaining just how far this review is from "independent": newscord.org/editorials/davi…

"What my family didn’t realise at the time was that our new ‘friends’ weren’t really ex-pats seeking a better life. They were almost all connected with the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUNb), a fascist, anti-semitic, ethno-nationalist movement led by Stepan Bandera. The OUN emerged in interwar Galicia, a region in today’s western Ukraine, but at the time part of Poland. It modelled itself on, and aligned itself with, the Nazis and adopted the greeting ‘Slava Ukraini’, originally accompanied by a Hitler salute. After the invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, the OUNb collaborated in the Holocaust, helping Hitler erase almost the entirety of Ukraine’s Jewry. At the end of the war, when the Nazis fled, the OUNb fled with them." hastingsonlinetimes.co.uk/ho…
