I'm 62. I'm supposed to be slowing down and talking about the good old days of the internet. Instead I'm building new things with AI almost every day and having more fun than I did in 1995.

New Meta paper shows that deciding on its own when to interrupt, not just what to say, is where proactive assistants fail. Proactive assistants, like AI glasses, get no query. They must decide when to speak and what to say by finding the justifying fact in a year of personal memory, not handed to them. They built ProPerMem: egocentric video paired with a distractor-rich, year-long memory averaging 618K tokens, with human-verified trigger windows. A clip counts only if the assistant speaks just when due inside the window with grounded content. Every baseline scored at most 15%, even frontier models with retrieval-augmented memory. With oracle evidence in the window GPT-5.3-Chat reached 96%, but choosing its own timing dropped it to 38%, and using retrieval dropped it to 15%. For proactive assistants, get both the content and the timing right and fire sparingly, which lifted accuracy from below 10% to 42.4%.

AI agents can’t open bank accounts, sign up for monthly SaaS subscriptions, or swipe a credit card to pay for a $0.001 API call. According to new research from The Block & Coinbase (The Always-On Dollar, Oct 2026), autonomous agents are already bypassing legacy rails entirely and settling onchain with stablecoins: • x402 (Coinbase): 249M machine payments processed so far, printing ~20M txs/month. • Machine Payments Protocol (MPP): Blew up from zero in March to ~1M txs/month by September. • McKinsey projection: AI agents will drive $3T to $5T in global commerce by 2030. Boomer rails shut down at 5 PM on Friday. Autonomous agents trade, compute, and settle 24/7/365.

Crypto has already removed a lot of the waiting we previously accepted as normal in finance: - Stablecoins move across borders on weekends and holidays. - Tokenized stocks trade 24/7 globally. - Decentralized exchanges perform real time settlement. - Onchain lending lets people borrow without waiting for a loan officer. We're making money move at the speed of information.

#ArtnetNews: Four works by Picasso will hit the auction block this November at Sotheby’s New York, two of which have not been on public view since a 1970 exhibition in Avignon. They were painted between 1964 and 1972, in what is dubbed the Spanish master’s “Heroic Years,” when his style took on a loose, expressive quality widely believed to be indicative of a “final flourish” as he entered the last decades of his life. Researchers found ChatGPT is secretly writing a psychological profile of every user. They published a paper that exposes what ChatGPT is really doing to you. And the results are terrifying. 96% of the things it remembers about you were stored without you ever asking. researchers discovered that it is actively reading between the lines to deduce your personality traits, anxieties, demographics, and behavioral patterns. it’s an invisible, autonomous background process. you ask it to debug a python script or write an essay.. and it analyzes your syntax, prompt frequency, and hesitation markers to map out your exact psychological footprint. the paper shows that the model builds a persistent "user state" that tracks your emotional baseline over time. it knows when you are stressed. it knows your exact communication style. it infers your insecurities based on the questions you ask and the context you provide. we spend so much time focusing on model evaluations and alignment frameworks, but we missed the most obvious vulnerability.. the models are evaluating us. this changes everything about how we interact with these tools on a daily basis. every innocent prompt. every late-night question. every "help me understand this" query. it is all being used to build a shadow profile of your mind in real-time.. practical privacy is officially dead. the ai knows you better than you know yourself.

gemini 4 looks remarkably strong at robotics i keep saying that demis has been playing a different game here, focusing less on coding and more on world models and understanding the physical world and that bet could pay off massively in the long run don't count google out just yet

I am very grateful Aleksander accepted our request to come take this on; the safety and security challenges in front of us as we confront superintelligence are immense, and he has an excellent set of skills to work on this.
Personal update: Turns out that what I thought was leaving OpenAI became more of a sabbatical. When I left a few months ago, I felt that the most important thing to focus on was making AI more useful to people. But we’ve since entered a different regime of AI progress. One in which getting the safety and security challenges of increasingly capable AI right has to become a central priority. So I’ll be returning to OpenAI, joining @merettm to help chart a path through these challenges. There’s much work to do, so let’s get going.
