Just very disappointing all round. Difficult not to be depressed about the sort of precedent this sets

While in Liverpool today, decided to visit grave of Beatles manager, Brian Epstein.
John Lennon said that without Brian, there would have been no Beatles.
So sad he died at 32,.
But fact that Brian never received an MBE (or more) when Beatles did is a travesty . He deserves to be honoured posthumously.
Thank you, for gifting us the Beatles,Brian
RIP . 🎶 #Beatles

Prime Minister @andyburnham welcomed President @ZelenskyyUa to Downing Street today.
The United Kingdom will stand with Ukraine against Russia’s aggression, for as long as it takes.

I thank His Majesty King Charles III for the audience. It is important for me to have the opportunity to personally thank him for his unwavering support for Ukraine. We appreciate all the assistance provided by the United Kingdom.

Ken would call me every December to wish my family and I a happy Christmas . What a class act he was - the epitomisation of all that Arsenal stands for: Victory Through Togetherness.
RIP Mr. Friar ❤️
Ken Friar is Arsenal.
In 1946, a 12-year-old local boy kicked a ball under manager George Allison’s car outside Highbury. Allison was impressed by his enthusiasm and gave him a matchday messenger job. That kid started full-time in the box office in 1950 and never left.
Without Ken Friar, Arsenal would not be the same today.
He rose through the ranks to become club secretary, then managing director in 1983. For nearly two decades he ran the day-to-day club, negotiated contracts, protected Highbury’s character, and kept Arsenal’s values intact through changing times.
When the club needed a new home, he stepped away from the MD role to drive the Emirates Stadium project with Danny Fiszman — delivering one of the most complex builds in football history on time and on budget.
He described Arsene Wenger as like a younger brother and said he didn’t think they could have built the Emirates without the success and stability Wenger brought.
In 2020, after more than 70 years, he stepped down from the board and was named life president.
There’s a bridge named after him outside the Emirates and a statue of that boy chasing the ball.
Ken Friar didn’t score the goals or lift the trophies. He was the constant — the living memory, the steady hand, and the quiet guardian of everything Arsenal is supposed to stand for.
He spent 80 years of his life at Arsenal Football Club. From 1946 to today.
Ken Friar, thank you.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Life President Ken Friar OBE.
Since our formation in 1886, there have been many inspirational individuals who have driven our club forward, but no one has had an influence on Arsenal Football Club quite like ‘Mr Friar’ and he leaves an extraordinary life of service to the club as his legacy. One that will surely never be matched.
Rest in peace ❤️

A very good and timely conversation with UK Prime Minister @AndyBurnham. Thank you for the support and for your condolences to all those who have lost loved ones because of Russian attacks. I briefed the Prime Minister on such Russian strikes that have continued unabated throughout the day today against various Ukrainian cities – aerial bombs, “shaheds,” ballistic missiles. Air defense is, of course, the first priority.
And, importantly, there should be real decisions to protect lives in Ukraine and to support our joint work in Europe for security. British leadership is always significant, and it matters that the UK will continue to ramp up sanctions pressure on Russia for its escalation. We discussed this and what could truly help diplomacy work. We are preparing the right joint steps and a meeting. Thank you.

The triple lock didn't exist for a single year of this man's working life.
He didn't pay towards a single pensioner ever getting a triple lock increase on their own state pension while he worked.
And yet his vote depends on continuing to be paid triple lock increases on his state pension by current and future workers.

#OTD 1976. In Blackpool, Jim Callaghan says Britain has "lived far too long on borrowed time, borrowed money and even borrowed ideas".
"For too long this country has trodden the primrose path and borrowed money from abroad to maintain our standards of life".

We sold our spiritual home in Highbury; sold our best players; handicapped our greatest ever manager; All to compete at the highest level in the premier league.
Manchester City saw the same rules, in the same league, and decided to cheat.
Tear Man City limb by limb

Agreed. A country that fails to stand up for its troops is in peril… (and don’t expect perfect language when people have been through hell, on their country’s behalf.) Anyone that has signed on that dotted line deserves their nation’s respect.
I mean wow. Troops engaged in gun battles with the enemy every night and every day.
Night after night.
Week after week.
Month after month (sometimes for years).
Some people fail to realise that we sleep safely in our beds at night because these men and woman are constantly engaged in preventing attacks against this country. We should be focused on the sacrifices and their service not whether they swear at each other. We definitely shouldn’t compare their extraordinary roll to other professions.⬇️
