The Galloway trial has offered a stunning window into the world of academic misconduct at UBC. A professor admitted on the stand to approving the incomplete thesis of Steven Galloway's accuser, allowing the woman to somehow finish her MFA program with an A+.
Then, the professor said she rewrote the UBC creative writing department's policies such that the accuser's incomplete thesis would have met the criteria for completion.

I am disgusted by the brutal attack on a Canadian Armed Forces member supervising young cadets selling poppies in Hamilton.
He stepped in after the cadets were assaulted. He was left with injuries police describe as life-altering.
He was helping young Canadians honour those who served. He should have gone home safely to his family.
No child should fear violence while selling a poppy. No Canadian should be brutalized for standing up for them. Those responsible for this cowardly attack must face the full consequences of the law.
My prayers are with this member, his family, and the young cadets affected by this horrific violence.
As Remembrance Day approaches, wear your poppy proudly. Support our veterans. And stand with the Canadians who serve and protect us.

🇨🇦 CANADA’S HOUSING CRASH IS GETTING UNCOMFORTABLY CLOSE TO AMERICA’S 2008 BUST.
According to BMO:
🏠 Canadian home prices: DOWN 20.5% from their 2022 peak.
🇺🇸 U.S. housing crash of 2008: Prices fell approximately 26%.
That’s a gap of just 5.5 percentage points.
And here’s what makes Canada’s situation particularly painful.
Many homeowners who bought near the peak are now renewing mortgages at higher interest rates.
Their properties are worth less.
Their borrowing costs are higher.
And selling doesn’t necessarily mean escaping the debt.
CANADIANS WERE TOLD REAL ESTATE WAS THE SAFEST WAY TO BUILD WEALTH.
For some peak buyers, it has become a lesson in leverage.
The difference from 2008 America? Canada hasn’t experienced a comparable nationwide wave of mortgage defaults and bank failures.
But the price correction alone deserves serious attention.
