New: An NYPD spokesperson confirms the police department no longer plans to enter into a no-bid contract with a controversial Israeli surveillance tech company — a reversal that comes after the procurement drew pushback from Mayor Mamdani's allies and civil rights advocates.

I'm not a fan of... most anything that DSA protesters believe in, really, but to my understanding this often amounts to an escalation tactic; police trap a crowd inside of a shrinking cordon - sometimes for hours on end - until they become agitated enough to justify arrest
The DSA wants to ban “kettling,” a police tactic for controlling protests. Sounds scary, right? Wanna know what “kettling” is? It’s cops standing in a circle around rioters to prevent them from scattering. That’s it. That’s all it is. Standing in a circle. Very evil and cruel.

A lot of ppl on here have a two-dimensional concept of political leverage, based purely on negative pressure. Leverage also comes from joining a coalition, making your group indispensable, building trust & problem-solving together, while pushing firmly.

Great DSA discourse: people describing mid sized cities like they’re the middle of nowhere. like “ugh go back to the cornfield you yokels who cares what you think” and the reply is “erm ever heard of the battle of blair mountain?!” but they’re talking about like. Columbus.

I hate this condescending whataboutism. Yes Bret, if the interior minister of Japan was a right-wing religious zealot using US taxpayer money for ethnic cleansing, they would probably be better known.
NYT's Bret Stephens whines that Democrats know "Smotrich and Ben-Gvir" but not "the interior minister of Japan." Their "obsession" with Israel drives him "crazy." (Being politically informed on Israel is now anti-Semitic.)

I really think everyone needs to pay attention to this cordinated campaign to delegimatize Muslim Americans - not just as citizens but as humans. These increasingly hysterical attacks are a prelude to Republicans bringing us to a very, very dark place after the election.

i have been a nithya skeptic for years. i do not think she should be a DSA candidate- she does not push the envelope for socialism. But she was endorsed by 2/3rds of her chapter, and she has now responded to DSA pressure and moved her position to be compliant with BDS.
Nithya Raman has been criticized by DSA members for not supporting BDS. She now says "I believe the best way for working Angelenos to stand in solidarity with Gaza is through non-violent protest, legislative action, and diplomatic pressure, including BDS."

Extraordinarily embarrassing
Replying to @petersterne
The resolution on rescinding her endorsement (which narrowly passed 14-13) calls on Raman to meet with DSA-LA leaders on Oct. 31 to explain her position on BDS. If she does not satisfactorily affirm her support for BDS, the NPC will vote on Nov. 1 to force DSA-LA to withdraw its endorsement of her. docs.google.com/document/d/1…

we need a ban on leftists reading too much German or Russian history. It’s getting to the point where it actually prevents ppl from thinking clearly about the actual present. it’s like American boomers and World War II.
The current results of the convention election don’t reflect the fact that SMC split into the Left-SMCs and the Right-SMCs, and the Left-SMCs support World to Winsheviks!

Brother we have already had Zohran, Nithya is is not in front of Z in the war of position but behind him. Vote for her sure, but this idea that it's apart of some great revolutionary plan is actually delusional. We are already past this point, her campaign is a step back!!!
Until the Nithya Raman’s can win how can Lenin’s? These things have to be brought about by lived political experience and struggle for ever greater gains and ever greater candidates. To dismiss the necessity of engaging *present* struggle is to do disservice to *future* struggle.
