No amount of screenings, trainings, or credentials will change the objective function of ICE, which is to enforce the racial boundaries of a white supremacist empire. We did the whole "bias awareness for agents of state violence" thing in 2020 and look where we are.

It's a shameful day in history when the UN votes to continue the illegal and violent occupation of Palestine.

Migratory season birding walk in Maryland feat. a chorus of toadsong (Anaxyrus americanus). They breed in shallow water, lay their eggs, then head to dry land! We also saw a pair of Tundra swans (Cygnus columbianus) and a blue-headed Vireo (Vireo solitarius)— two rare sightings!

Hayao Miyazaki didn’t come to the United States in 2003 to accept his Oscar for Spirited Away because of his opposition to the Iraq War, so I have to imagine he’d be nothing short of furious to see a genocidal occupational military using Ghibli art style to advertise themselves.

‘NO OTHER LAND’ co-director Yuval Abraham reports that co-director Hamdan Ballal was attacked and wounded by Israeli settlers, and then abducted by Israeli soldiers from within the ambulance taking him to the hospital.
His condition and whereabouts are currently unknown.
gutted beyond words……. every day of this genocide Hossam risked his life to show the world what Israel is doing to his people…. every day I’ve seen his coverage…. he was a person with dreams and passions and loved ones and the spark of life and we failed him.
This is Hossam’s team, and we are sharing his final message :
“If you’re reading this, it means I have been killed—most likely targeted—by the Israeli occupation forces. When this all began, I was only 21 years old—a college student with dreams like anyone else. For past 18 months, I have dedicated every moment of my life to my people. I documented the horrors in northern Gaza minute by minute, determined to show the world the truth they tried to bury. I slept on pavements, in schools, in tents—anywhere I could. Each day was a battle for survival. I endured hunger for months, yet I never left my people’s side.
By God, I fulfilled my duty as a journalist. I risked everything to report the truth, and now, I am finally at rest—something I haven’t known in the past 18 months . I did all this because I believe in the Palestinian cause. I believe this land is ours, and it has been the highest honor of my life to die defending it and serving its people.
I ask you now: do not stop speaking about Gaza. Do not let the world look away. Keep fighting, keep telling our stories—until Palestine is free.”
— For the last time, Hossam Shabat, from northern Gaza.
