N.C. 12 remains closed between Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe as crews remove damaged pavement and prep for a one‑lane detour by Fri. All other sections are open. The Rodanthe–Stumpy Point emergency ferry continues to run. Visitor access to Hatteras Island is still restricted.

THIS JUST IN: NCDOT is targeting noon Friday to reopen N.C. 12 near the Pea Island Visitor Center with a one-lane paved detour, providing a timetable for restoring roadway access between Hatteras Island and the northern Outer Banks.

Bob Uecker's "I must be in the front row" Miller Lite ad became bigger than the commercial campaign itself. The spot dates to the early 1980s and fit Uecker's self-deprecating persona perfectly.
He could be a baseball broadcaster, actor and comedian without changing the character much at all. Nobody played the lovable guy who knew he wasn't the star better than Uecker.

NC DOT crews are in process of clearing way for new pavement on Hwy 12.
Sandbags and protective dunes will be on the ocean side.
Initial goal will be to open one lane, then two.
A longer term fix would have to be approved at a higher level. Until then, re-paving.
