We've gone from "supporting Palestine Action is criminal" to "opposing the proscription of Palestine Action is criminal" without any new laws being passed.
It should worry anyone when opposing government decisions has been made an arrestable offence.
This is the statement issued by the Met Police about the Defend Our Juries demonstration today. Commander Adam Slonecki, from Scotland Yard, said: “All those intending on coming to this event know that supporting a proscribed organisation is unlawful – they are essentially meeting to purposefully commit a crime.” This is a remarkable contrual of the law and extent of police powers. Surely it cannot be right that someone protesting against the Government’s decision to proscribe an organisation is automatically interpreted by the Met Police as supporting that organisation and is therefore committing an arrest-able offence. This is especially the case when the proscription is being challenged in the courts. I believe the government and parliament made the wrong decision in proscribing Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation and I continue to call for its deproscription by the government. If the people turning up today to demonstrate against the proscription of Palestine Action are to be arrested for simply turning up, are we all to be criminalised for suggesting the government got this wrong?

This is nothing personal, but it says a lot about conventional political journalism that a story which amounts to “a politician told us ahead of time what he is going to say on television in a few days” is considered a ‘banger of a scoop’
Banger of a scoop from @daisyeastlake - former Green leader Adrian Ramsey will this weekend go public and accuse pro-Palestinian activists of having taken over the party and replaced its environmental values with anti-Israeli politics.

It's not quite "The punishment beatings will continue until morale improves", but it's definitely in the same postcode.
There’s a common perception that Britain is somehow an exceptionally high-tax country. And, judging by some of the comments here, apparently £126,000 is a relatively modest income compared with what Americans earn.
But let’s get into the real world.
£126,000 is approximately $168,000. That would put you in roughly the top 10% of full-time, year-round earners in America. And remember, America has some exceptionally high earners bringing up the average. You’re earning more than around 90% of the country’s full-time workforce.
And the taxation.
Take that same £126,000 salary and compare what you’d take home after tax in three locations:
🇬🇧 United Kingdom: £6,966 per month.
🇺🇸 California: £7,038 per month.
🇺🇸 New York City: £6,953 per month.
Once you account for all the layers of taxation, federal, state, local and payroll taxes in America, the take-home income is virtually identical.
The US has a much higher GDP per capita than the UK, but that’s because it has a number of enormous global companies and some exceptionally wealthy individuals. The US has extreme wealth inequality, far more so than the UK.

Be warned - if the police have reasonable grounds to suspect you might be the sort of person who'd hand a bottle of water to an elderly lady holding a sign - they have the power to order you out of central London today.
A Section 35 dispersal order will be in place in parts of central London from 8am to 11pm today.
This is following information that a group are planning to attend an event and express support for a proscribed organisation, which is an offence under the Terrorism Act.
The order will apply to the area outlined in the below map and means officers can order a person to leave the area or face arrest, where certain conditions apply.
Updates on today's policing operation will be posted on this thread.

10 years ago, @FlavioBolsonaro ran for mayor of Rio de Janeiro. In the debate, he passed out & shit his pants (yes, really). One of the candidates was a doctor & tried to help. His dad, Jair, yelled "communist, get your hands off my son!" & "01, did you turn yellow? Do pushups!"
