What a great tribute to Sir Patrick Stewart. The humble Yorkshireman in him would have been nonplussed I'm sure, at this!

We’ve just seen a record 28 day period with a bumper number of customers taking the train during the busy back-to-school, back-to-work period. 5.5% growth alongside most customer metrics all moving in the right direction.
Thanks for trusting us. We’ll keep going - plenty to do!

And then it could still end up never being built because of a cost overrun; like St Clears, or Cardiff West, or Edginswell, the Ivanhoe line or HS2a. Good god this country wastes a fortune on not building stuff.

We run a number of ‘Poppy Expresses’ at this important time of year, as we welcome customers to support @PoppyLegion and to pop on a poppy.
Thanks to our lovely volunteers and conductors for joining in 🙏

Sorting out some 35mm negs and so thought I'd share this, because for me it really sums up the end of industrial steam in the UK. This was 1982 at Smithywood Coking Plant, Sheffield. A tired 'Aussie', near-derelict infra, scarce traffic & a branch connection on its last legs.

I’ve had my arm twisted to join @Substack - do join me over at open.substack.com/pub/alexho… where I’ll talk more about life on the railways and adventures in transport.
Happy to hear any (polite and reasonable!) suggestions on topics too.

That’s right - it’s one those classic 1950s BR flat roofed boxes.

To understand how the Trump administration behaves and makes (and unmakes) policy, you have to understand that it comes from a constant battle between incompetence and evil.
Their policies are usually a combination of both in different measures.

Shout out of thanks to our brilliant train presentation crews for their work each day & night, and especially today - #ThankYourCleanerDay.
As well as busy crews during the day, whilst we sleep, many colleagues get your trains ready for the day ahead. We’d be lost without them!

⭐️ The Epilogue ⭐️
Typically, Alstom threw a spanner in the works after I wrote all this and swapped out 221116 for a 4-car again, so those bonus seats on 1M22 have vanished as quickly as they appeared.
Still, you can't miss what you never had.
Have a train.

The train had terminated and not in service at the time. Perfectly safe at that point ^JV
