I doom scroll and give my opinion of sports. I watch 10 college football games at a time. I’m not an addict

Spot. On. I think the people running sports have forgotten why people fell in love with them in the first place. There used to be something simple about it. Saturday was college football. You knew the games mattered because losing one could wreck your entire season. Baseball was part of the rhythm of summer. The postseason felt different. Rivalries mattered. Traditions mattered. Going to a game felt like an event instead of another opportunity to squeeze another $20 out of you. Now everything has to be bigger. More playoff teams. More games. More TV windows. Larger conferences. More subscriptions. More commercials. More premium seating. More money. And somehow we’ve convinced ourselves that more automatically means better. I love college football as much as anybody, but I don’t need a 24-team playoff to make me care about it. I cared because Georgia losing on a random Saturday in October mattered. That tension was the product. The regular season was basically a playoff before we ever had one. That’s what worries me about where all of this is headed. The people making these decisions seem obsessed with maximizing the value of every individual piece without realizing they may be slowly killing the value of the whole thing. There’s a limit to how much time and money people can give you. You can’t keep adding games, adding subscriptions, raising ticket prices, changing conferences, moving kickoff times around for TV, and then act surprised when fans eventually say, “You know what, I’m good.” Sports were supposed to be the thing we escaped TO. At some point they started feeling like something else we have to keep up with. Maybe sports haven’t peaked. But I definitely think we’ve reached the point where more isn’t better anymore.
I hate to say it folks but I think sports as a whole may have peaked. Everything about sports just feels so forced and unnecessary, a desperate attempt for a private equity firm to squeeze more juice from the lemon. You have college football who is going to expand to a 24 team playoff, getting rid of the most unique thing about college football; its regular season. But these people aren’t college football people, they are tv executives and investors. They could care less about the sustainability of the sports and the tradition of it, they only care about turning a profit. The MLB playoff have begun and if you are between the ages of 22 and 65, you probably haven’t seen much of them because they are all on during the day. A MLB playoff game started at 2 PM Eastern on a Tuesday. This is 11 AM Pacific. Why? Because NBC has to be the only network that can air the Wild Card round, so they need triple headers to be able to get all of the games in. Atlanta and Philly are heading into a game 3 and didn’t even know what time they were playing til about midnight last night because of conflicts with other games and network availability. Corporate greed has completely botched the MLB playoffs so far in order to keep all the games on NBC. It feels as if sports have peaked across the board. We’ve gotten to a point where it’s impossible for fans to care more than they have before, spend more than they have before, or watch more than they have before. Every consumer situation has an infliction point, where the capacity of the consumer is maxed out. The product has to back off in order to not burn out the customer and keep them engaged enough to have them invested long term while they back off and recharge short term. I believe that is where America is with sports now. It currently demands too much of us on a daily basis and has ruined the reasons that we have fallen in love with it. Maybe we all just need a break…

If this is the rule, then why have we spent literally decades obsessing over whether the guy's hand was coming forward or not?

We really aren’t that far from a Louisiana judge ordering that LSU can play with 15 players on defense

I really had no idea there would be this level of hate, anger and just absolute psychosis over suggesting frugality.

The same people who shrieked incessantly about how $25/hr was absolutely necessary for menial zero skill work are now confused about why a value meal costs $15, a car costs $35K and a house costs $500K

It’s legitimately not good for the sport to have a rules expert tell you what the call should be and then have the replay team continually rule the opposite.

Arizona State went from #12 to unranked for a last minute loss at Mississippi State.. Many of these people don’t watch the games. Rank the rankers

I guess this is the new party line and I think this actually this is way worse. It’s like raising the cost of Arizona Ice tea from 99 cents to $1.02. Just soiling a core value for practically no gain
Some added clarity: NFL RedZone is seven hours — 420 minutes. Over that time, viewers will be served 1-2 total minutes of ads in :15 increments. This comes out to anywhere between 0.25% - 0.5% of the total time, considerably less than other sports/entertainment programs.

Growing up, ESPN was the best of the best in sports. Turning on Sportscenter every day after school was the best part of the day. Now it's nothing but a bunch of filthy greedy monsters who don't give a shit about the viewers. It's seriously sickening and sad and disgusting.
