I found that this is another reason why people seek remote work. Working in the office comes with all these expectations of social activities that drag you away from your actual loved ones. Employers aim to create your social life at the office, so you won't leave so easily.

It's crazy that most surveys show employees love remote work AND that it enhances overall productivity, and yet managers keep on calling them back to offices.

Remote work isn’t a benefit; it’s a location.

Being against remote work in 2024 has all the same vibe as being against online shopping in 1990s. Even some of the “arguments” are the same!

As a startup founder, I’ve learned to focus only on solving problems rather than stressing about them - its a mindset that has carried over into and remarkably improved all aspects of life. Stressing just wastes time that could be spent solving.

I’d only give up remote working for this. It’s the only Office I’d return to.

The people most against remote work – the ones who call remote workers lazy, unprofessional and sweatpant wearers – are the workers least productive working remotely It’s projection: because they can’t perform remotely, because they are unproductive at home, they assume everyone else is Spoiler: if you lack the ability to focus and do work without distraction at home, the office environment is even more distracting! The difference: you can hide your unproductivity in the office via performance busyness. Hop form meeting to conversation, pad out the 8 hour day. Play politics, take credit for work you never did. No wonder there is a vocal minority against remote work: it makes it incredibly easy to see the people producing outcomes and those who are only good at talking about it

Companies, if you’re worried that your remote employees aren’t giving 100%, you’re hiring the wrong people. Making them work on-site isn’t going to change that.

I will never understand people who argue against remote/hybrid work by stating not all jobs can be remote. "What about truck drivers" is peak whataboutism. The remote work discussion is centered around work that can, you know, be done remotely.
