Ten years later the frontage in photo 2 was replaced with this very impressive sculpture wall. A plaque reads that the sculpture by Judith Bluck was unveiled on the 24th October 1989. Hard to photograph as it's very large and very intricate!

Following an enquiry to ABCT, do you happen to possess any information about the Deakin airship/dirigible, said to be built and flown at Newcastle-under-Lyme in 1909? Cardington said to later be involved, though far more likely it was Farnborough; Wilbur Wright mentioned too.

Influential Scottish architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh was born #OnThisDay in 1868. While this painting was sadly lost in the fire in The Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School of Art in 2014, you can still view it on Art UK: artuk.org/discover/stories/t…

Sometimes I feel bad that my knowledge of most living languages is inferior to my knowledge of a couple of dead ones. And then I think, when did languages stop having a verb like ekproiallō, that means 'to send spectres out from her eyes' (used of sorceresses)?
