We're thinking Michigan's lake effect snow season could be WELL above average this year. Lake waters are extremely warm for November standards. When we finally get that cooler winter air, we're going to see some pretty large snow events for lake effect belts. The important distinction, is that El Niño usually means less SYNOPTIC snowfall for Michigan, and this is still true for our thoughts on this upcoming season. Synoptic snow is snow that comes from large low pressure systems or disturbances, whereas lake effect snow isn’t directly associated with synoptic snow systems and happens separately. So even though we may see less snow makers this year due to our pattern, lake effect snow can still thrive.

Some more great maps from SWE detailing how an early-November SSW, like we have this year, can impact snowfall across the country in December and January. Obviously not a guarantee of anything, but you can see how widespread the above average anomaly is (in blue shading) across nearly the entire country both months. A little worrying seeing such stout below average anomalies out West in January though, really need a good winter for them. Don't write this winter off just because it's a Super El Nino. No two winters are alike, and even the slightest change in the pattern can have immense impacts down the road. There's also decent support for colder anomalies in both months, especially toward the northern tier, though I'm wary to forecast that with how active our Pacific Jet will be. Gonna be hard to fight against the constant influx of warm Pacific air all season long. Read their article here: severe-weather.eu/long-range…

"Es solo un niño, ¿por qué lo arrestan? ¡Están tomando a un niño!". En el régimen de Trump, los secuestros raciales de la Gestapo siguen ocurriendo a plena luz del día, esta vez los camisas pardas secuestraron a un niño latino de 4 años. Si ocurriese en Cuba o algún pais enemigo de EEUU, te lo contarían hasta con palomas mensajeras.

Strong consistency the past 4 months worth of model runs... for much cooler than normal weather to round out winter in Florida and the Gulf Coast. February 2027 shows signals of being several degrees colder than normal in FL. This follows other major El Niño winters. Orlando monthly temperature anomaly during: February 1973: -3.9° February 1983: -3.7° February 1998: -2.0° February 2016: -2.2°

The upcoming Super El Niño is "baked in the cake" for the winter, and will be an even more extreme version of the last 50-years of similarly situated winters.

Euro AIFS wants to bring the first snow to interior parts of the northern Mid-Atlantic & Northeast about a week from today. Can't completely rule it out with a strong shot of cold, a 50/50 low in place & a deep trough in the east. Long shot right now, but we'll watch it. Regardless exciting to see these runs popping up. #EcWx

An omega-block will form and solidify over Canada -- a pattern that we'll see a LOT this winter. On both sides of the ridge --> impressive "cold air origin" troughs will provide extreme weather to both coasts. Also, something we'll see more of this winter! And, if a surface low pressure wave riding along the subtropical jet stream -- fueled by El Niño in the Pacific -- can phase even a little bit with the upper-level trough, then you can get storm formation -- a Nor'easter or even a "bomb cyclone" Don't you want at least a few powerful bomb cyclones this winter --> blockbuster blizzards?

The STRONGEST subtropical jet stream in history is now showing up on the latest ECMWF forecast for this winter. This is the new reality of a Super El Niño fueled Winter and will mean even more weather extremes with Flooding and storms.

Hundreds of elected Republicans and thousands of their staffers lost their jobs. All of them will now be unemployed and looking for work in the terrible economy that they helped create while serving under Trump. What would you say to them? 🤔

An enormous cell of rising air — perhaps of record magnitude — will shift east across the Pacific during the second half of November. As this MJO pulse reinforces El Niño, it will likely help trigger a transition to stormy weather across the central and eastern United States.

Super El Niño 🔥is raging across the Equatorial Pacific -- likely the strongest in 1,000 years, and you're alive to witness its magnitude and power. Shields up! However, this stunning map shows "cooler blue🟦" over 2/3rds of the Lower 48 this winter for temperatures --> due to Pacific storm systems like "ice storms" and "atmospheric rivers" from a firehose / pineapple express🍍which will lead to Nor'easters (blockbuster blizzards). Meteorologists now have the "answer key" for the upcoming winter, and there is no going back. This is "baked in the cake" and will unfold exactly as we feared: planetary warmth is higher in the background, and put a turbocharged and super-moist atmosphere on top. Prepare for perhaps the craziest winter in your lifetime, until the next one in the early 2030s.

The latest ECMWF update has interestingly shifted its forecast El Niño peak (+4.1°C) one month later to January. This likely owes to relentless westerly wind forcing that continues to shift warm water eastward across the Pacific. El Niño's impacts will extend well into 2027.
