@RaquelGaudard — There’s something of a memento mori in your work, even in all those neon colors. Is death something you think about often, both in your art and in your life?
@ALIENQUEENART — Yes, death is something I think about often, both personally and in my work. Growing up in a family that survived the Cambodian genocide, death and survival have always been part of my understanding of life. But I don’t see death as purely dark or morbid. It’s a reminder that life is temporary and that we’re all sharing the same human experience. That’s why I often combine imagery of death, skulls, and impermanence with bright, psychedelic colors and playful characters. There’s beauty, humor, chaos, and life alongside death, and I think my work reflects that tension.

@RaquelGaudard — Your illustrations are figurative, psychedelic, surreal. How much of your own life finds its way into those images?
@ALIENQUEENART — All of my work is about me. It comes from my experiences, memories, emotions, and the things that have shaped me throughout my life. My family survived the Cambodian genocide and the Khmer Rouge, which deeply influenced how I think about memory, trauma, identity, and survival. At the same time, I grew up in America in the 90s, playing video games, watching cartoons, skateboarding, and listening to alternative music; those became another important part of how I see and interpret the world. All of these influences, both personal and cultural, come together in my work through surreal and psychedelic imagery.
