A man paralyzed from the neck down for 12 years has regained the ability to walk using a brain implant! 🧠
Gert-Jan Oskam underwent a procedure where two disc-shaped implants were inserted into his skull, allowing his thoughts to control electrical stimulation to his spinal cord, enabling voluntary movement of his legs and feet.
The device, developed by neuroscientist Grégoire Courtine and his team, represents a significant breakthrough in restoring mobility for individuals with spinal cord injuries.
