⚠️ Israeli soldiers say orders were to kill any man encountered in Gaza: middleeasteye.net/news/israe…
⚠️ In fact, they were also ALLOWED to kill women and children as they saw fit.
Here's the recorded testimony, aired on Israeli TV (without much criticism):

If you’re interested in reading the profile I wrote on Dan Osborn before Election Day tomorrow, it’s here:

“I was told that we couldn’t run this race without the corporations’ and special interests’ money…I have always believed that this Senate seat belongs to us, not the billionaire Epstein class.” — Dan Osborn
A smaller-than-expected, yet quite energetic, crowd at Osborn’s rally tonight in Omaha. Coming up on 24 hours until polls close in Nebraska.

Not only does Kirchik the bigot not know what an 'Islamist' is, but @HamawyForNJ served his country in warzones, saved American lives, rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the US military, while Kirchick sat at home writing op-eds urging Americans to go fight and die abroad.
Abdul El-Sayed isn’t the only Islamist running in this election. Read @powellAtlantic on the slippery Adam Hamawy @theAtlantic

This is yet another insane and wrong 'Community Note' from Yglesias supporters which just isn't true. Yes he backed McMorrow originally but then he clearly and publicly backed Stevens against El-Sayed after McMorrow pulled out, tweeting in July that "my advice would be to vote for Stevens" and sharing multiple polls claiming to show Stevens would do better against Rogers. And in my recent interview with Yglesias, he said "yeah" he still believes Stevens would have been the "better" and "safer" candidate against Rogers than El-Sayed.
It's all on tape (this website and the 'notes' are so broken): youtube.com/watch?v=av3KOf88…
This was the candidate who Neera Tanden and Matt Yglesias and Shannon Watts and plenty of other centrists told us was the ‘electable’ candidate in Michigan. Sheesh.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Yglesias did not say Stevens was the electable Michigan Senate candidate. He criticized the establishment for backing her as their "electable alternative," calling the choice poor and favoring Rivet or McMorrow instead.

🟢 Hamas official Basem Naim warned that reported plans to dismiss more than 7,000 UNRWA employees in Gaza and the occupied West Bank could dismantle the UN agency that provides education, healthcare and relief to Palestinian refugees.
Naim, who heads Hamas’s Arab and Islamic relations office, said the stakes go beyond losing services and jobs, describing UNRWA as an enduring institutional acknowledgment of Palestinian displacement and refugees’ unresolved rights, particularly their right of return.
He charged the U.S. with backing efforts to dismantle the agency by using UNRWA’s funding crisis to weaken it, with the reported dismissal of more than 7,000 staff as one step.
He connected this with US backing or tacit support of Israel’s illegal settlement expansion and the destruction of Palestinian refugee camps. He called for international and Palestinian action to protect the agency, stressing that refugee rights would remain even if UNRWA were dismantled.

We don't have to like or agree with the Muslim Brotherhood's ideology but that's different than saying it's a terrorist organization. It's not. Here's a brief primer I wrote the other week:
I've been reticent to jump into the moral panic about @AbdulElSayed's supposed ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. But I'll say a few things that should be obvious but apparently aren't, as someone who studied the Brotherhood for years and wrote several books about them. First of all, so what if Abdul's mom was involved with the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood in the 1970s? What does that have to do with Abdul? You shouldn't be judged for something your parents did or didn't do before you were even born. That's plainly guilt by association.
As for the Egyptian Brotherhood itself, it hasn't been involved in political violence since the 1940s/50s and even those incidents can't really be described as terrorism, since they didn't target innocent civilians for political gain. In the decades since, the Brotherhood has repeatedly renounced violence and committed themselves to pursuing their aims through the democratic process. It's little accident that Al-Qaeda's number two, Ayman al-Zawahiri, wrote an entire book condemning the Brotherhood as lackeys and disbelievers, precisely because they had agreed to abide by the rules of the democratic game.
Of course, it's totally fine to dislike the Brotherhood and what they stand for. They advocate for the application of Islamic law in politics and for a larger role for Islam in public life more broadly. In short, they're illiberal and we as Americans probably wouldn't want to live under their rule. But I don't see how one could describe them as an "extremist" organization. Their views on Islam — as ample polling makes clear — are fairly mainstream by Egyptian standards. I'm not sure it makes a lot of sense to judge the Brotherhood according to liberal, American standards.
Before the Trump administration, successive U.S. administrations engaged directly with Muslim Brotherhood officials and maintained open lines of communication with their leaders, which made sense. They were the largest mass movement and opposition group in Egypt and it would have been foolish to ignore them from the standpoint of U.S. national interests. Even if you hate the Brotherhood, it should also be possible to hold the view that their members and supporters shouldn't be repressed or killed and should have the right to participate in politics and contest democratic elections. Democracy, at its core, is about the right to make the wrong choice.
In many ways, MAGA as a movement is more radical than the Brotherhood was in Egypt both before and during the Arab Spring. At the very least, MAGA — like the Brotherhood — is illiberal. And the Republican Party under Trump has a dubious relationship with democracy. After all, a significant number of Republicans, including Trump himself, didn't respect democratic outcomes in 2020 and sought to overturn a legitimate election.
The GOP's attempt to demonize the Brotherhood and paint with the guilt-by-association brush is just another way to vilify peaceful law-abiding American Muslims by portraying them as having foreign ties and dual loyalties. It should be rejected as such. The idea that Abdul is some secret Muslim Brotherhood member is absurd on its face.
I wish the Republican Party would make up its mind about people like Abdul and Zohran, both of whom take the Democratic Party's line on LGBTQ rights and even trans athletes participation in women's sports. Sure, their faith is important to them and it influences them — but Republicans should welcome the fact that there are prominent Muslim politicians who are normalizing talking about one's faith in public life, especially after criticizing the Democratic Party for being inhospitable to people of faith.
Abdul Mohamed El-Sayed has documented ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, @shadihamid.
No amount of spin or deflection can change that.

American muslim here. Correctly blaming a Muslim majority country’s politics for rising consumer prices would not be Islamophobic in the least. It also usually doesn’t happen because the US has long been allies with most dictatorships in the Middle East region. Maybe that’s what you should be talking about.
Imagine a PAC ad telling voters groceries cost more because of Muslim countries @shadihamid . Would we call that a foreign policy critique, or incitement against every Muslim in Michigan? So why does blaming Israel for your grocery bill get a pass, when it's the same hatred aimed at Jews?

With all due respect Jamie, there's no evidence that Abdul is an "Islamist." An Islamist, by definition, is someone who participates in politics with the goal of applying Islamic law in public life or otherwise elevating the role of Islam to a central role in legislation. There's no evidence Abdul wants to do that. If anything, he fully adopts the Democratic Party's line on LGBTQ rights and even seems more than fine with trans athletes participating in women's sports. If anything, the criticism of Abdul would be that he doesn't more fully reflect Islam's traditional teachings on gender and doesn't really sound socially conservative notes on public policy issues more broadly.

⚡️Quincy Institute’s Trita Parsi: “The Iranians tell me that they are certain the attacks were conducted by Israel, and not the US. A senior US source tells me it wasn’t the American side.”
BREAKING: Just as a glimmer of hope emerges between the US and Iran, someone starts bombing Iranian radar sites. I suspect Israel.
I posted a few days ago that a glimmer of hope had emerged in the US-Iran talks mediated by Qatar. Over the past few days, progress has increased to the point that sources and officials on all sides have privately expressed a degree of optimism, and both JD Vance and Trump himself did so publicly just a few hours ago.
Then, suddenly, things started to blow up on the Iranian island of Qeshm, as well as near the cities of Bandar Abbas and Ahvaz in southern Iran.
The Iranians tell me that they are certain the attacks were conducted by Israel, and not the US. A senior US source tells me it wasn’t the American side.
I posted last weekend that Israel had breached Iranian airspace. Tehran, however, opted not to respond, suspecting that Israel wanted to goad Iran into a trap by responding harshly, as that could help Netanyahu in the elections and force Trump’s hand in terms of turning to war.
It would be completely in line with a decades-long pattern of Israeli sabotage of US-Iran diplomacy that Netanyahu would begin kinetic action on the eve of a potential breakthrough in US-Iran talks - which incidentally appears to include a Chinese dimension - in order to sabotage it. Israel has opposed every US-Iran deal, including Trump’s MOU from this past summer.

There's a reason relatively few people still use the phrase "moderate Muslims." It implies that Muslims generally aren't moderate. You rarely see people use the term "moderate Jews" or "moderate Christians" in this same way. It creates a dichotomy between the "good" ones and everyone else. And it puts the onus on Muslims to constantly prove they're moderate, often according to standards that other people pose for them.
Dara Horn spoke a truth America needs to hear: moderate Muslims who challenge Islamism face threats, fatwas, and efforts to silence us. Her powerful endorsement of AMMWEC recognizes that courage. We need support so more Muslims can speak freely.

2) the ad doesn’t blame the Jews.
3) the ad has nothing to do with AES or his campaign
4) she’s talking to Scott Jennings who supports a President who pardoned guys in Camp Auschwitz and Confederate flag shirts and referred to ‘Shylocks’ the other week.

🇫🇷 “A racism fed by certain media and political parties”: father of French terror victim says he fears for Black children in France
Pengo Bossio Wangi, 26, was killed in a racist attack in Trappes and La Verrière on October 23. At a press conference in Paris on Monday, his sister read a statement on behalf of their father that has three asks:
➤ That the national tribute planned by President Emmanuel Macron must not be “solely a moment of contemplation” but “the occasion for a true awakening of conscience”
➤ That the country confront the racism “that has corroded French society for decades”
➤ That it address how this racism is “fed by certain media and political parties.”
His accusation points to a specific political and media ecosystem in France. In the wake of the attack, the mayor of Trappes, Ali Rabeh, blamed the far-right Rassemblement National (RN), citing leader Jordan Bardella’s repeated description of the town as an “Islamist republic” and his calls to “take Trappes back for France.”
Rabeh also singled out CNews, a right-wing news channel, for broadcasting racist rhetoric. “This violence is continuously fueled when CNews, between 2022 and 2024, makes 30,000 mentions of the word Islam, three times more than other media which, themselves, are not exempt from criticism,” Rabeh said in a letter to a rally held for Wangi and fellow victims.
Reporting by independent outlet Mediapart found that the attacker was a heavy consumer of continuous news channels. His friends told the outlet he framed every issue through immigration “like Éric Zemmour, Marine Le Pen or Pascal Praud” (two far-right politicians and a prominent CNews host) and that “the CNews analysis suits him well.”
The anger has also spilled over onto news crews. At an October 24 gathering in Trappes honoring Wangi and the other victims, attendees confronted journalists from CNews and BFMTV, accusing the channels of fueling racist hatred. Both crews were reportedly told to leave. Two BFMTV journalists, mistaken for CNews reporters, were forced out as protesters shouted, “You have blood on your hands!”
