“Oh, fear the LORD, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him” (Psalm 34:9). Holy fear cures the soul of lesser tyrannies. When God is feared rightly, other fears begin to shrink into their proper size before the Almighty.

📖 BOOK REVIEW
This is the most profound theological work I have ever read. With remarkable precision and reverence, St John unfolds the mysteries of the Christian faith, drawing upon Holy Scripture and the wisdom of the Holy Fathers to articulate the doctrines preserved within the Orthodox Church.
🙏🏾 What I particularly appreciate is his insistence that theology must begin with humility. God has revealed Himself to us, yet His divine essence remains beyond human comprehension. This exemplifies the saint's own great humility in a theological work that exercises such intellectual rigor while continually reminding its reader of the limitations of human reason before the ineffable God.
Having studied theology extensively in both undergraduate and graduate academia, I found this work both intellectually enriching and spiritually edifying. St John demonstrates that the Orthodox faith possesses a remarkable theological coherence, rooted in the apostolic inheritance and expressed through centuries of faithful reflection.
☦️ This is certainly no light reading, and some passages demand considerable patience and contemplation. This is NOT a book for new inquirers. Nevertheless, the reward is immeasurable. For anyone wishing to understand the erudite and esoteric theological foundations of Eastern Orthodoxy, I cannot recommend this work highly enough.
