Yea bro, so true! Just make sure never, ever, to go to a restaurant opened by former engineers.
They'll give you NaN.
College educated people have terrible social skills.
School reinforces through punishment, rather than encouragement, which tends to stifle rather than expand. Studies back this up.
This ruins people.
Why do we still “educate” that way? I guess just because it’s easier.
Chinese people have terrible social skills and empathy skill, almost universally.
Cultural values plays a major role. Only child society also major.
Good social skills is nearly equivalent to being very good with kids.
All kids, of course, not just related ones.
Why is every digital artist always hard selling their shitty asset packs or scripts.
Is there really so little dignity in that field?
i've been trying to work on what I think is a brand new technique for rendering
...but finding it hard to focus without getting distracted by X. 😭
I can roughly see the direction, but it's hard know 100% what you mean without untangling that. And I'm genuinely curious to know what others feel about it.
My point was that being a probability model isn't a very distinctive property. (i.e. Kolmogorov: a domain, set of outcomes, and a related set of numbers that adds to 1.) And maybe isn't the right terminology for copyright, perhaps you mean something about high entropy?
Why this is notable:
Most art/creativity is about developing a personal style that you can develop and nurture. In other words, searching high-dimensional space for a local minima.
(Aside: It would be hard to measure, but I also believe that artists have additional tools other than gradient descent, which I'd say seems roughly the same as imitation.)
There's also difference between copyright legally vs morally. Legally, style would be hard to define/enforce. IMO, that doesn't mean there's less "copying" occuring, says more about the limitation of language.
Since law is limited, art has relied on *art culture* which discourages people from imitating too closely. This is why we don't have endless copy-cat studios pumping out imitation work.
What I see now is the collision of "art culture" and "tech culture". I'd claim the latter isn't much of a culture, but one that prioritizes law/money over anything else.
I also predict that the latter will win in today's climate, but I'm really not sure if that is a good thing.

I mean, if you're taking things to that extreme, can't even a person become a probabilistic model with high variance? i can tell you're passionate about probability, so you must know how these models work. if so, I think you can grasp what I was going for, yes?
this is great... but feels like javascript fatigue all over again
1/ Gemini 2.5 is here, and it’s our most intelligent AI model ever.
Our first 2.5 model, Gemini 2.5 Pro Experimental is a state-of-the-art thinking model, leading in a wide range of benchmarks – with impressive improvements in enhanced reasoning and coding and now #1 on @lmarena_ai by a significant margin. With a model this intelligent, we wanted to get it to people as quickly as possible.
Find it on Google AI Studio and in the @geminiapp for Gemini Advanced users now – and in Vertex in the coming weeks. This is the start of a new era of thinking models – and we can’t wait to see where things go from here.

Really curious if anyone has studies that don't presume 24 hour cadences.
I just woke up from sleeping 17h (after maybe a ~20h+ awake), and feel great, but studies mostly tell me I'm already dead. 😅
statements feel so forced, especially the 2nd guy.
also, the sun isn't reflecting in the right place...
and apparently there's a second sun about to come up from below the horizon

still think it kind of depends.
for academically complex things, e.g. late undergrad or ~grad and beyond, books and papers still seem unmatched by alternatives
for practical code, directly to source code seems the best.
for when you don't want to go at it too hard, maybe something like an oreilly or some walkthrough type thing.
for when you're dead tired or just want to get the vibes of something, yt seems best
but you're also right, if the person can't read well, then probably books aren't the best option, lol. but the book isn't really to blame for that.
People doing something they believe in significantly outperform people doing something for a paycheck.
