She Hid Her 12-Year-Old Daughter in a Ditch for Nine Months to Save Her From Boko Haram
In August 2014, Zainabu Hamayaji made a decision that would keep her daughter alive but force the young girl to spend nine months hidden underground.
Hassana was only 12 years old. Her mother feared that Boko Haram fighters would abduct her and force her to become a child bride.
To protect her, Zainabu hid her in a deep ditch behind their home in Madagali, Adamawa State, Nigeria.
Then, she did something that made the plan even more extraordinary.
She pretended to be mentally ill so the insurgents would leave her family alone.
When Boko Haram invaded Madagali, families faced a terrifying choice. People who tried to escape were being killed, and Zainabu witnessed the violence firsthand.
Her husband was among those killed.
She was left trying to protect her children in a town controlled by the same fighters she feared would take her eldest daughter away.
Zainabu had heard that the insurgents were looking for young girls to marry. When they learned she had a daughter of marriageable age, they came to her home.
She denied having such a daughter, but they did not believe her.
They beat her repeatedly. Her shoulder was dislocated, and she lost a tooth during the attacks.
Zainabu realised that simply denying Hassana's existence would not be enough. She needed to make the fighters believe there was something about her family that made it dangerous to interfere with them.
So she began acting as though she had lost her sanity.
She loosened her hair, stripped off her clothes and wandered around the community. She rolled in rubbish and smeared herself with urine and faeces.
The woman who had once lived an ordinary life was deliberately making herself an object of avoidance.
The insurgents returned repeatedly to check whether her behaviour was genuine. Each time, Zainabu continued the act.
Her younger children helped her maintain the deception. When the fighters questioned them about their mother's behaviour, they insisted that she had been mentally unwell for a long time and had previously visited a psychiatric hospital.
The children were frightened, but they played their part.
Eventually, the insurgents began to believe the story.
According to Zainabu's account, they feared that harming a mentally ill woman or taking her child could bring a curse upon them. They even left a warning on the family's house telling other fighters not to attack them.
But while Zainabu was trying to convince the insurgents that she was mentally unstable, Hassana was facing a different kind of ordeal.
She was living inside a ditch.
Her mother had prepared the hiding place with supplies, including food, water and matches. Hassana had to cook and manage her basic needs in the confined space. She also had to find a way to dispose of her waste.
For nine months, the ditch became her hiding place.
She could not simply walk outside whenever she wanted. Her safety depended on remaining hidden while her mother continued the deception above ground.
It was an extraordinary burden for a child who should have been able to live without fear of being abducted and forced into marriage.
Zainabu kept up the act, despite the beatings and the physical injuries she had suffered.
Then, in March 2015, Nigerian soldiers recaptured Madagali from Boko Haram.
When the soldiers encountered Zainabu, they were suspicious. They wanted to know how she had survived in the occupied town and questioned whether she had been married to a Boko Haram fighter.
She denied it and explained what she had done to protect her children.
The soldiers did not immediately believe her.
So she took them to the hiding place.
When they opened the ditch, Hassana was there.
After nine months underground, the 12-year-old girl was finally brought out of hiding.
The soldiers took the family to a camp for displaced people in Gwoza, where Zainabu later told her story to journalists.

Happy that 3 intense days of Moonshot is over. Really proud of how my team delivered on creating a beautiful event. A little glitches but overall, we delivered a massive event at a scale that we aren’t used to or understand the work it takes.
#MoonshotByTechCabal
‼️ Linux kernel TCP flaw rated 9.8 CVSS.
Anthropic demonstrated an exploit that runs commands as root on servers using MPTCP.
Ubuntu and RHEL still lack fixes, while Debian, Oracle and others have released patches for some versions.

Icl, I love how straight to the point the females were with her.
People screwing at women for not wanting children and then we have the other side of the spectrum of a single mother with 14 children and 12 different dads?!!
HELLO??!!!

aight, fuck it, my turn for this kind of post
i'm looking for work.
i'm 21 and i've spent a rather unreasonable amount of time building software over the past year.
here's some of what i've been up to:
kiban: built an embedded LSM storage engine from scratch in rust. WAL, SSTables, compaction, snapshots, concurrency, crash recovery and fault injection.
the benchmarks are probably my favourite part. on warm 1M-record workloads, i got 0.96µs median point reads and over 1M point-read calls/s, with 2.2-2.7x faster point reads than tuned RocksDB. group commit pushed fully durable writes to 5,379/s at 16 writers, a 7.5x improvement. also managed to shrink the point index by 61%.
styx: a ~41k LOC bittorrent client in rust with 600+ tests. implemented peer-wire networking, verified downloading/seeding, trackers, DHT, magnet metadata exchange, daemon IPC, CLI/TUI and a desktop shell.
kurogane: implemented Raft consensus from scratch in rust. elections, log replication, snapshots, crash recovery, joint consensus, real gRPC networking and a deterministic fault-injecting simulator with linearizability verification.
konto: built a double-entry accounting engine with PostgreSQL and typescript. atomic transactions, holds, transfers, idempotency and enforced financial invariants. includes stress testing with 1,000 concurrent transfer/hold operations.
iris: built a GPU-accelerated image viewer for linux using rust, Vulkan, GTK4 and DMA-BUF. RAW decoding, ICC colour management, GPU rendering, Wayland presentation and software fallbacks.
webnotes: built a local-first notes app with a native Tauri desktop client, SQLite storage, bidirectional linking, a structured editor and web synchronization.
scribe: built an open-source publishing SDK for React, Next.js and Vite. handles Markdown/MDX compilation, typography, components, styling and local authoring. currently in public beta.
and then there's my open source work.
i've had PRs merged into HelixDB, Turso, Apache DataFusion, Zed, NativeLink, Zilliz Knowhere and Nix, covering everything from database internals and query execution to infrastructure, editor behaviour and correctness fixes.
i've also got contributions underway in RocksDB, Neon, HydraDB, FalkorDB and Starship, among others.
most of my work revolves around rust, typescript, databases, storage, networking and systems engineering. i've also been getting deeper into ML infrastructure and inference.
i'm looking for a full-time remote engineering role. internships and contracts are on the table too.
my github has all the code, benchmarks and documentation:

if you're hiring or know someone who is, hit me up.
reposts appreciated :)

Not naturally romantic, fellas? Then make it a system.
Keep her in love FOREVER.
1️⃣ Set a calendar alert to buy her flowers every 15 to 55 days. Keep the timing random so it never feels expected.
2️⃣ Make a contact note for her with her sizes, ring size, perfume, favorite snack, and favorite restaurant. Gift shopping gets easy and you never have to guess.
3️⃣ When she mentions a big meeting, doctor visit, or hard conversation, put it in your calendar. Text her before, then ask how it went after.
4️⃣ Fix the small annoyance she's complained about once. The frayed charger, the squeaky door, the lotion she ran out of.
5️⃣ Pick a default date night, same place on the same day each month. Romance doesn't depend on you being creative that week...
...plan the whole date, including the babysitter, the reservation, and a hint about what to wear. Her only job is showing up.
6️⃣ Fill her gas tank or warm up her car on a cold morning without mentioning it.
7️⃣ Phone down for the first 10 minutes after you both get home. Full attention is the cheapest romantic thing there is.
Romance isn't about being naturally charming. It's about making her feel remembered, considered, and loved, even on an ordinary Tuesday.

This is what I've been building since Dec 2024; I've taken circa three cracks at it. The primitives are starting to settle and make sense. In short, I think this is the shape of CI/CD, code review, and ultimately what displaces GitHub itself. Blog post incoming.
Tbh I think they are paying people money to make these videos to help justify layoffs.

1. Your men slapped a woman who was on a call before you arrived, how was she alerting the fraudsters?
2. From the video evidence, your men didn’t attempt to identify themselves with an ID card - how was she to know they're not Kidnappers and attempt to alert neighbours (I noticed a brief moment when she might have attempted to dial another number).
3. From the video evidence, your men were dragging a suspect on the floor while another was stomping on his legs - is this the standard procedure?
No one said you shouldn't do your jobs, the manner in which you carry out these stings are inhumane and the people are asking that you should handle all cases professionally.
Dear Nigerians, when you are being arrested, guilty or not, cooperate with law enforcement, you have the right to call someone once you are at their office - use the call wisely.
Nigeria will be OK.
Sting Operation at Applewood Estate and Matters Arising
Operatives of the Lagos Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, October 26, 2026 carried out a sting operation at Applewood Estate, Orchid Road, Lekki, Lagos State, to apprehend suspected cybercrime fraudsters obtaining money from unsuspecting victims through gift cards, crypto currencies and international money transfers by impersonating several individuals.
The operation, carried out by 5am, yielded the arrest of twenty-one(21) suspected cybercrime fraudsters and five exotic cars. The fraudsters were apprehended professionally owing to diligent pre-arrest surveillance and reconnaissance of the activities of the fraudsters. A young lady that stood in the way of the operation by making telephone calls to alert the fraudsters was held and her phone confiscated until the conclusion of the operation. The phone was later released to her.
Preliminary investigations of the arrested suspects indicted nineteen(19) of them while the remaining two have been released.
All the indicted suspects will be arraigned in court immediately.
While the EFCC continues its crusade and operational dynamics against economic and financial crimes and other acts of corruption, the public is enjoined to keep faith with it and loudly condemn the activities of fraudsters bringing the nation to disrepute.
The Sting Operation at Applewood Estate was professionally carried out, with no record of harassment, intimidation or unlawful arrest of anyone. The Commission is open to constructive engagement by well-meaning Nigerians but blackmailers and alarmists will not be allowed to sabotage its mandate.

In laymans terms,
Titanium implants are strong and the body accepts them, but they’re way too stiff
because the metal takes almost all the pressure, the real bone next to it gets lazy and starts to weaken over time (like a muscle that doesn’t get used).
This was the issue with earlier titanium implants and joint replacements
the new implant though are made from a special zinc alloy shaped like a lightweight, sponge-like lattice
it is flexible and almost like real bone, so it shares the load properly and doesn’t cause that weakening problem
Whats REALLY fucking cool is that its also designed to dissolve over time
So its a temporary implant, and as it dissolves, it releases minerals and ions that actually promote your new, healthy bone in its place
When the job is done, the implant is mostly gone and your own bone has taken over and is the proper strength
-medical engineering is a marvel
today while talkin to my friend (who’s a doctor) I learned something really crazy
That the titanium implants don't just sit in bone they actually bone grows into them
the oxide layer on titanium surface is chemically close enough to biological tissue that cells can't find the boundary so they erase it
osseointegration isn't the implant holding on it's biology deciding the metal belongs there
the skeleton adopts the foreign object as its own
Cyborg vibes

I was fortunate to have discussed some aspects of this with him about a year ago, but I had no idea he was going to cook this hard...
When I was going through the blog while it was still in preview, I had several aha moments! It took me 2 hours to read and comprehend it all.
This is sooo good. Give it a read!
After a year of quiet work, I'm ready to announce Egres.
Egres is a Postgres-compatible database designed to tackle heavy workloads and run thousands of tenants on the same server. It works with psql and drivers unchanged. The post covers the what, the why and the how:
manishrjain.com/egres/
For Egres, I wrote a new storage engine called zdb: a tree of LSM trees, which I call an LSM forest. It runs on local disk or object storage, has roaring bitmaps integration for indexing, and can do instant zero-copy branches of a database or a table.
Everything runs on zfiber, a coroutine system I wrote for Egres. It meters CPU ticks, disk IOPS and memory used per query, per tenant, so thousands of tenants can share the same server without the noisy neighbor problem.
This release is single node and the query features are very basic. Raft replication is already baked in. Future releases will allow multi-node clusters. Try it out! Would love to hear what you think.
