Excited to announce I have a book coming out co-published by @orbooks and @thenation! The book explores the rapid rise and fall of Marcus Garvey's movement, and how A. Philip Randolph's labor and civil rights-based organizing reshaped American politics.

I learned about the Holocaust and I was like, that's bad. Then I learned about the Civil Rights Movement and I was like, that's good.

Somewhere, a Black grandmother is fighting the urge to say “take your time, baby”
The public sector is a crucial source of employment for black workers. Collective bargaining rights is far more important than being able to do a dance. But for some this is a better form of "black voter outreach" than campaigning on real issues that affect black workers' lives.

If you read one thing today, make sure it is this:
In a stunning piece published by the head of one of Israel's most prominent think tanks, Maj. Gen. Tamir Hayman describes the reality of Israel's new security doctrine:
A few crucial principles he describes:
1. The United States is a “declining power” and, given its ongoing social and political shifts, will soon abandon Israel in any event. This is compelling Israel to move toward greater self-reliance in order to avoid "excessive dependence" on the US since it "exposes Israel to the influence of a progressive American value system that is incompatible with Israel's Jewish character."
Then he concludes: "Severing ties with the United States is therefore not only inevitable, but essential to Israel’s independence and the resilience of its Jewish national identity."

Socialist electeds have made real progress for working people, but some still opposing nuclear energy remains a baffling blind spot. You can't build a reliable, 100% clean, public grid without firm baseload power.
Nuclear is an objective good, not even a necessary evil.
🚨 NEW YORK SOCIALISTS OPPOSE NEW NUCLEAR 🚨
In a depressing new state filing, all of the DSA Socialists in Office slate serving in the state legislature have joined other state Dems in opposing the governor's landmark Nuclear Reliability Backbone initiative. Specifically, they "oppose the use of any taxpayer or ratepayer subsidies to support the construction of new nuclear power plants in New York." Why? Because, they argue, nuclear is too expensive, too slow, and what-about-the-waste. The same old New Left shit.
When will Zohran's abundance left approach be applied to energy? When will DSA abandon its green NGO advisors on energy issues?

Been looking forward to this book by @paul_prescod since it was announced
Marcus Garvey built the largest black movement of his era on the promise of redeeming Africa.
But he knew almost nothing about the continent, and his organization had nothing to offer black workers on the things that shaped their lives. jacobin.com/2026/09/garvey-b…
Honored to have the supportive words of these brilliant people, many of whom have dedicated their lives to the study of black working-class history.
