https://xitter.cf/t.co/cVAioppPBz stops link-rot: give it a URL, get back a link to a permanent, archived copy of that webpage. Use https://xitter.cf/t.co/cVAioppPBz + link with confidence. Created @HarvardLIL

Client-side playback is untethering possibilities for how we access, explore, and share web archives. For #webarchivingwednesday we’re sharing musings and recommendations from the experience of implementing it on Perma.cc! lil.law.harvard.edu/blog/202…

Completely true. Election links and COVID data dashboards rot all too quickly unless proactively archived at the time of linking.
This gets worse for contemporaneous events such as elections where there is less reliable resources. In my dissertation on political discourse during 2012 election we identified that 3.4 percent of links had rotted within weeks following the election.

Thrilled to share important new link rot study by colleagues @zittrain @john_bowers_ and @clare__stanton, published in the Columbia Journalism Review, which examines the entire NYT digital corpus and finds ... you guessed it ... a bunch of rotten links. cjr.org/analysis/linkrot-con…

We’re looking for a couple enterprising students to join our intrepid team @HarvardLIL (@opencasebook @permacc @caselawaccess) this summer to explore new ideas and push open access and OER into new, exciting territory: lil.law.harvard.edu/collabor…
Darn it. 🥴 When link rot is in play, the early bird still does not get the worm. [Another reminder of @permacc's value.]
I'm hiring a generalist developer to help me improve and maintain new and existing Webrecorder tools! Candidates from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in technology and open source spaces are especially encouraged to apply.
Want to play a key role in a growing ecosystem of cutting-edge open source web archiving tools, and make web archiving easier and more accessible to all? Webrecorder is now hiring a generalist developer on a contract basis: webrecorder.net/jobs Apply by September 15th!

Of note: the U.S. House of Representatives has used @permacc in its #ImpeachmentTrial memorandum to cite URLS: xitter.cf/digiphile/status/12186… like this one, where the public can read a letter from John Adams to Thomas Jefferson: perma.cc/QWD8-222B This is a BFD for posterity.
Absolutely. I’d like to see @permacc links to avoid link rot too!
Solid analysis, with excellent use of links as citations. Journalists, watchdogs & scholars: Hyperlinks are the dendrites of the Internet: digiphile.info/2011/01/03/bl… When you use them like footnotes in tweets & articles, you “show your work” like Scott does here:
