Part 1: 3Jane: Derivatives on EigenLayer
Today, I am excited to launch 3Jane ( @3janexyz) protocol. 3Jane unlocks a novel derivatives yield layer for restakers by enabling the collateralization of restaked ETH in derivatives contracts — specifically *call options*.
Restaking is a ~$20B industry which has grown ~15x YTD and has captured ~15% of the ETH market. Pioneered by EigenLayer, the premise rests on a (now) simple notion: ETH security can be shared. Reframed more commercially: (Re)stake ETH to earn yield across other cryptoeconomic systems (aka AVS).
AVS yield has always been the endgame — restakers earn yield by securing other AVS's (via delegating to operators who run AVS software) in exchange for slashing risk. PoS staking yield is a classic crypto-native yield source which everyone is familiar with.
Whereas AVS yield comes from slashing risk, derivatives yield comes from exchanging price risk on the price of an underlying asset, particularly ETH. As a result, restakers can earn +10-15% APY in ETH yield on top of staking/restaking yield.
3Jane is the first ETH yield source for all EigenLayer assets and the first step towards financializing EigenLayer by sourcing yield not just from AVS security but also from financial derivatives.
