BREAKING ASTRONOMY NEWS!
After 49 years, the mystery of exactly where the Wow! Signal came from has been solved.
The #AreciboWow "has solved this mystery using three independent methods." But looks like we'll have to wait a little longer for the answer, as they're planning to present their findings next year. I can hardly wait!
Here's some background 👇
The Wow! Signal was a strong, narrowband radio signal detected on August 15, 1977, by Ohio State University’s Big Ear radio telescope during a SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) survey.
It appeared near the 1420 MHz hydrogen line (a frequency long considered a natural “calling card” for any technological civilization) and lasted the full 72 seconds of the telescope’s observing window as Earth rotated.
A few days later, volunteer astronomer Jerry Ehman reviewed the computer printout, circled the intensity sequence “6EQUJ5,” and wrote “Wow!” in the margin, giving the signal its name.
Despite many follow up searches, it was never detected again. Its one time nature and lack of modulation or encoded message leave its origin open: possible natural explanations (such as a briefly energized hydrogen cloud, potentially triggered by a magnetar or similar transient) have been proposed in recent analyses, but none are confirmed, and the signal remains one of the most famous unexplained events in SETI history.
One of the biggest mysteries of the Wow! Signal is its exact location, with two possible positions in the sky. Our #AreciboWow team has solved this mystery using three independent methods. We’ll present our findings in 2027.
We know! 😉

Anthropic expects AI that rivals top human experts, works autonomously for weeks and controls robots to become widely available within a few years.
Its IPO filing makes super exciting claims:
- Expert-level autonomous systems "within a few years": Anthropic expects AI to match or exceed leading human experts across most professional and scientific disciplines. These systems would work for hours, days or weeks, coordinate with other agents, and operate laboratory equipment and robots through digital interfaces.
- Millions of highly capable agents: Anthropic’s vision is "a country of geniuses in a data center". Vast numbers of agents working in parallel across software, physics, mathematics, biology, medicine and engineering. The company expects exponential progress in AI capabilities to continue.
- AI is already accelerating the development of its successors: Claude helps run experiments, generate and process training data, automate evaluations and safety audits, and write research code. Anthropic calls this "closing the loop": better models help discover improvements that make the next generation more capable. It says over 90% of September’s codebase contributions were written by Claude.
- Scientific progress could accelerate dramatically: Anthropic sees the potential for “compressing decades of scientific progress into years”. It also reports discovering a molecular machine with Claude that might become a new biotechnology tool, potentially for gene editing. That remains an early research finding requiring validation.
- Compute could remain the limiting factor: Anthropic expects increasingly capable models to unlock new categories of work, keeping demand ahead of available compute for the foreseeable future. It also argues that today’s models already have capabilities the wider economy has barely begun to use.

SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios.
The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios.
Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said.
Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior.

well damn this feels like the start of Universal Basic Income
We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit.
It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion.
In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good. Our co-founders have already pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and around half our employees are donating a portion of their equity as part of a donation matching program we’ve run since our founding.
In the post below, we share more details about our new fund.

This is massive, world changing AI news
AI achieved superhuman performance in theoretical physics.
GPT-6 Astra autonomously solved 49 of 50 unpublished theoretical physics research problems, 98% accuracy at under $3 per problem.
$3 per problem, think about it...
Crazy part?
Researchers initially marked several answers wrong, only to discover that the AI had caught mistakes in calculations by world class physicists.
why this is imo way more important and insane news than AI games, pics, recent software disruption?
Advancing theoretical physics may give us technologies like:
Practical fusion power, antimatter propulsion, relativistic spacecraft, interstellar travel, artificial gravity, vacuum engineering, micro black holes, wormholes, warp drives, solving dark matter and dark energy, theory of everything + 1000s more.
we're berely scratching the surface, and super physics AI can easily accelerate our progress 1000s fold, so we can see all this in our lifetimes.
just like in math , ~1000 big (unsolved by decads) math problems solved by OpenAI and Google,
50-100 years worth of progress in one week.
Now we're moving this disruption and speed to theoretical physics.
This will give us Star Trek (and more advanced) tech by 2030s.

Argon, I must admit, is great in those 1-shot game requests.

Tried really hard to like Argon. Threw all I could find to it.
Vedict: Google needs to RSI this fast, this is not fun.
