Chase is closing accounts for anyone with an EU address including US citizens abroad.
Letters started going out October 1. Accounts close in December. Cards linked to them go too.
A new EU banking rule starts January 11, 2027. It doesn't order Chase to close anything. Chase just decided leaving is cheaper than complying.
Other US banks will do the same math.
Running your entire financial life and business exclusively through US banks is financial suicide.

Lula no puede festejar. Brasil necesita un ajuste fiscal de al menos 3% del PBI y Lula prometió lo contrario. La desconfianza está en los mercados.
Para Uruguay el riesgo es claro: un real más débil nos encarece y nos quita competitividad en exportaciones y turismo.
Pero también hay una oportunidad que no deberíamos desaprovechar. Empresarios y familias brasileñas van a buscar refugio. Paraguay ya está captando decenas de miles. Nosotros tenemos estabilidad, seguridad jurídica y acceso preferencial al mercado brasileño desde zonas francas.
El problema es que no lo estamos diciendo con suficiente fuerza. Y en impuestos y facilidad para radicarse, Paraguay nos está ganando. Uruguay fue históricamente un refugio regional y no debemos negar esa condición.
“Gobernar es poblar”, decía Alberdi.
Esta vez no alcanza con esperar. Hay que salir a buscarlos.
