Gen X and older millenials hated the prequels and even Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy because they hated sincerity. There's a reason the same critics of those ate up the MCU movies that were embarrassed of what they were and constantly had to make self deprecating jokes.
People dismissed Lucas as a hack that couldn't work with actors when he was intentionally going for an older style they weren't familiar with
Who doesn't love the modern trend of taking simple stories and making them unnecessarily long and convoluted. Oh and make sure to leave a cliffhanger ending at the end!
The chungus gen x and millenial nerds seething about this are just proving Doomer right
The prequels were made with an audience of children in mind and these idiots still can't follow the plot. Then again Jack thinks Lord of the Rings isn't Christian and is "overtly pagan" so he isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.
Replying to @MattWalshBlog
The script is awful and plot makes no sense and is completely inconsistent with the originals
Stumbled upon this old video of HelloGreedo being super enthusiastic about JJ Abrams directing and writing Star Wars where he claims that George Lucas never understood what made his own creation so special but JJ Abrams gets it!

Wow I can't believe George Lucas had more on his mind other than making movies about Darth Vader being badass!
No.
The Star Wars Prequels were hated because we were quite literally promised at least one or more movies about Darth Vader.
Darth Vader in the helmet and cape doing the iconic, menacing breathing.
Darth Vader fighting Jedi. Darth Vader enslaving Wookies. Darth Vader striding around and being a general all around badass.
That was the promise. That was what all the advertising was about leading up to The Phantom Menace. (1999).
Lucas welched on the deal.
Instead we got podracing, fart jokes, and a creepy romance with 17-year old Natalie Portman and 8-year old Jake Lloyd.
Rob Ager is one of the better film analysis channels but his suggestions here are just unnecessarily convoluted and miss the point on why Lucas made the story the way he did. As always George knows best!
Actually you should gatekeep the fuck out of franchises you enjoy because otherwise you have new fans infiltrating the conversation and claiming that everything old is bad/redundant and the new stuff is the best. Just look at what happened to Silent Hill and Resident Evils fans!
"Just eat up your slop and don't criticize it!"
Jaws can't achieve a higher score because letterboxds insipid user base can't appreciate the simple pleasure of men bonding over the common goal of taking down a shark

ROTS is the quintessential sensitive young man movie, which is why no one besides younger millennials/zoomers could truly appreciate it. It was about 6-7 years ahead of its time.
