Three years ago today, Ben Mizrachi went to a music festival with friends. He was 22, a Vancouverite, and never came home. Three years ago I condemned the attack, knowing full well the level of retaliation that could ensue. This morning I'm thinking of his family and Jewish families across this city who have carried October 7 every day since. Many have felt less safe in their neighbourhoods, at school, at work, and at shul. Some felt those around them didn't see their grief, or dismissed it. I want to be one who sees it. Antisemitism has no place in Vancouver. Jewish Vancouverites have every right to be fully, visibly, proudly Jewish here. To Ben's family and everyone mourning today, we are with you. Thank you, Prime Minister, for your thoughtful words.

4/ Hamas must be condemned. That it is committed to a non-secular order of government must be condemned. That it shows no regard for the retaliation on their people must be condemned. That it was willing to commit the types of atrocities on civilians must also be condemened.

What Vancouver’s mayor and council are doing is crime displacement. They haven’t solved the problem. They’re simply moving crime from one neighbourhood to the next. It’s playing Whac-a-Mole with public safety. We need to go after criminals at every level, from the street to the organized networks bringing drugs into our city and preying on the vulnerable. At the same time, we need real treatment, mental health support and services for those who need them most. You cannot solve Vancouver’s public safety crisis by moving the problem around. The criminals are playing chess. The mayor is playing Whac-a-Mole. Vancouver needs a strategy that actually solves the problem. @vanliberals #vanpoli #bcpoli #vancouver
Ken Sim’s strategy on safety has been a total failure. Chinatown break-ins are up 275% despite dramatically higher police spending and years of broken promises from Ken Sim. Chinatown and Vancouver doesn’t need more promises. It needs results. It’s time for change. Source: globalnews.ca/news/12025999/… Media Contact: [email protected]

Vancouver spent a record $6 million on severance last year. City Hall refused to say to whom. It took a Vancouver Sun FOI to get the number. In June 2024, Ken Sim's City Hall deleted QuickFind, the public staff directory online since the 1990s, then refused two FOI requests to restore it. If you can't see who works there, you can't see who was pushed out. Vancouver Liberals will: 1. Restore the directory as open data, updated quarterly. 2. Report severance publicly every year: total, position, months paid. 3. Require a recorded Council vote and public rationale before any statutory officer is hired or removed. 4. Give the Auditor General power to compel documents and a public tracker on every recommendation. City Hall is elected by 700,000 people. It shouldn't be run for seven. cityhallwatch.wordpress.com/…

Today Vancouver Coastal Health has listed three Vancouver beaches unsuitable for swimming. Ken Sim and ABC must be held accountable for dumping raw sewage into our oceans. Source (9:13am 7/6/26): vch.ca/en/service/public-bea…
Vancouver is dumping raw sewage into False Creek, and it's resulting in our beaches being closed due to high E. coli counts. Ken Sim and ABC have delayed the investments needed to end this practice by another 20 years. The Vancouver Liberal plan is to accelerate the investments needed to get our beaches open year-round.

Perhaps, though I think elite opinion was quite split and if I recall properly, Mulroney had by far the most media endorsements in 1988. When I was reading your post, I was thinking about the culture war issues you are interested in campaigning on.

This is important. Amazing to see Toronto seriously considering this. Vancouver should have ended the apartment ban years ago. Progress Vancouver was the only party with a Mayoral candidate (ie. me) to propose this last October. #vanpoli #topoli
We're here in the Toronto City Council chambers, where they will vote today on ending the apartment ban on 2/3 of Toronto's residential land. It's time to legalize multiplexes (hopefully). We will be live tweeting in this thread when debate begins.
