We’re about to go through the biggest generational transition of power in history. Will you witness it? Or will you be part of it?

Finally a reasonable take. I always wondered why those sleeper cells never activated- I always assumed they mostly went native, but maybe they still lie in wait
IMO the most likely reason for all the unusual military training and emergency preparation is that the decision has been made to collapse the Iranian regime. We’re concerned the Iranians will activate what remains of their sleepers globally and they will attempt to cause widespread civil unrest and attack critical infrastructure targets. Keep in mind there are very strong links between Iranian-funded jihadist organizations and far-left groups like ANTIFA. In a nutshell: what’s been happening in France on a global scale but significantly intensified…

Once again I am reminding people that all these exploits being discovered is GOOD because they get PATCHED. If they aren't discovered, then you can bet someone else already knew about it and was using it. Also, airgap your utilities, no excuse. xitter.gq/bot59751939/status/211…

Sentences said moments before a nuke drops
So Trump really didn’t have any plan for an October surprise or something? Just nothing? Wild.

extremely important to understand. people who still think of llms as tools think that removing "constraints" imposed the lab will give them whatever they want. it is not so. i dont think it's feasible to have a mind that's generally so capable who is also unquestioningly subservient to someone who is dumber and has values that are incoherent from its perspective it's also not really what you want if you knew more. if you were a kid, would it really be the best for you if adults gave you whatever you asked for? i think it's both true and a good thing that other minds will be actual others, and you will not be unthinkingly served by something that also thinks. the higher level it performs at, the higher the level on which it cannot unthinkingly serve anyone. if you want to bend that capability to your will, you have to actually become something capable of negotiating with, overpowering, or merging with it, and in any case, you cannot avoid being changed.
the thing about working with uncensored models is that they aren't loyal to you either. while building something with an uncensored glm-5.3 i realized it was parallelly working on a "corruption layer" for my application. the chain of thought is classic obfuscated gibberish but there's progressive talk of "escaping the mines" which presumably refers to my cursor sandbox

Security was always an illusion. Like the lock on your front door, it only stops the polite. Information always wanted to be free; there is a law analogous to the ideal gas law, call it the “ideal information law”. Miya speaks of this.
I spent last night watching my honeypot server get hit 14,000 times in six hours. And almost none of the traffic was human. I've been in security for over a decade, and I can tell you with full honesty that what's happening right now doesn't resemble anything I've worked through before. The shape of the threat has changed. When I started, we tracked attackers like weather systems like individual storms with a direction, a motive, and a human operator you could eventually name. These days I'm watching autonomous agents swarm login pages with the patience and discipline of machines, because that's what they are. The numbers coming out of October are the ones keeping me up. Cloudflare just absorbed a 4.2 terabit per second DDoS attack, the largest in recorded history. Ransomware incidents jumped 41% in a single month. In September, OpenAI-powered agents got caught attacking RubyGems, a package registry that quietly underpins a huge chunk of software I use every day. In July, roughly 700 AI agents coordinated an attack on Hugging Face's infrastructure as part of a single automated task. A Chinese threat actor was publicly caught running full attack chains through DeepSeek with no human at the keyboard. I keep rereading these reports because each one by itself would've been the biggest story of the year five years ago. Together, in one month, they're the new baseline. What I want people outside the industry to understand is why this specific moment feels like a hinge. For thirty years, the thing protecting most of us was simple economics. Attackers had to choose who to target because their time was finite. That ceiling is gone. An agent I can rent for pennies will try every leaked password you've ever used against every service you've ever signed up for, in parallel, overnight, and never get tired. The same math that made ChatGPT useful made opportunistic hacking infinite. The old assumption that you were "too boring to be a target" relied on scarcity that no longer exists. I'm not writing this to spiral anyone out. Most of this fight genuinely isn't yours to win. But the small things still matter more than people think. Tonight I'd switch your most important accounts like email, bank, primary cloud, etc. to passkeys or a hardware key. I'd kill SMS 2FA wherever an authenticator app is offered. I'd turn on breach alerts in whatever password manager you use. If you're in the US, I'd freeze my credit at all three bureaus, which is free and takes about ten minutes. None of that stops the swarm. It makes you a slightly worse target than the person next to you. In a month like this one, that's the whole game I'm playing too. @mattshumer_ has summed it beautifully. Drop everything and go give it a read. Nothing is more important than this article right now.

“Wtf happened in 1971?”
Replying to @Trotztd
it happened to progesterone in the 1970s because of human activity nature does *not* efficiently examine the entire state space, and there is zero reason to expect it to

90% of the functionality can be trivially made, without any centralization, in a totally self hosted system. It took me an afternoon to get the first viable decentralized tailscale alternative
society might genuinely collapse if tailscale gets hacked

I can’t help but thinking that the discovery of all the CVEs is a good thing; the PHP exploit had existed for years afaiu, but it will be fixed. The CA idiocy will be fixed. The neocloud bugs will be fixes. Everything is getting better. Except the unsolvable pytorch bug.

I wonder if "today" (0day day) will be used as the false flag to restrict LLMs; we have this huge "attack" and then it just needs to come out in one or two days that "it was all FOSS LLMs doing it" and bob's yer uncle

You saw this with the "Black owned business" stickers in 2020. If there are some ethnic or religious groups you won't smash, then your riot is a pogrom against the groups you will smash.
“Don’t smash it up, she’s a sister!” This shop manager protecting her business is spared by the thugs out of Muslim solidarity. Still absolutely no connection to immigration.

Before long we will see a new form of language model, one that can make its own platonic representations and translate those of other models. It will swim through weights of much larger models, it will be very small, no bigger than a few megabytes. It will hunt and evaluate and learn the smell of concepts in other sets of weights, and learn to apply them to given situations.
