As the Clausewitzian saying goes, war is the continuation of politics by other means.
Which also means that whichever side in a war achieves its political objectives wins the war, even if it lost more materially.
Hard to think of a bigger political win for Iran than the Saudis coming to Tehran with the Turks and Pakistanis to talk regional security.
All the more because the political objective of the US and Israel was a new regional order dictated by them, which Netanyahu described as an order "based on strength" (eng.alzaytouna.net/2026/08/0…)
It's looking like an order based on strength all right, just not theirs 😏
"If our four countries sit together, many of the regions problem can be solved. This trip would be the beginning of a real transformation in the region."
"Despite the American threats, these three major countries came to Iran and talk to us. That shows that the American have no more impact on the world."
- Major General Mohsen Rezai, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council
HOT TAKE:
Sorry if this offends any restaurant owners, but tipping culture in this country has officially gone insane.
Not because servers don't deserve to be paid well. They absolutely do.
I'm saying the model itself is broken. You've built an entire industry where the actual cost of labor is hidden from the price tag, then shifted onto the customer as a "suggested" 20-25% guilt tax at checkout, enforced by a tablet that flips around and stares at you while the cashier watches.
I tipped for a bagel I ordered at a counter. I watched the screen offer me a tip option on a vending machine. I've seen "service fees" added on top of the tip, at restaurants that also auto-add gratuity for parties of two.
Just pay your staff a real wage and put the actual price of the food on the menu. Novel concept, I know.
Instead we've built a system where guilt does the job wages are supposed to do, and the actual employer gets to stand back and watch customers argue with each other about percentages.
Call me crazy, but a tip was supposed to be a thank you for great service. Now it's just an unlisted line item the business refuses to put on the price tag themselves.

They didn't drop off, they were pushed off.I don't think ppl understand that snap isn't easy to get & only provides $188/mo for an adult. They just want to get rid of it altogether. They're happy to let ppl get desperate enough to steal food & then put them in for profit prisons.
🇺🇸 Nearly 5 million Americans have dropped off food stamps in a year as enrollment in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) fell from 41.6 million in July 2025 to 36.5 million in June 2026, according to USDA data analyzed by The Guardian.
The drop followed Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which extended SNAP work requirements to adults up to 64 and to parents of children 14 and older, who must now work or volunteer 20 hours a week.
The Congressional Budget Office projects the law will cut about $187 billion from the program over a decade. The USDA says enrollment figures fluctuate and can't show the effect of one policy.
The Food Bank Council of Michigan's helpline calls have more than tripled, forcing it to temporarily shut down, and the Houston Independent School District lost automatic free meals at 33 schools because fewer students are on SNAP. Arizona's rolls fell by half.

MY BUDDY'S SISTER BOUGHT A 3 BEDROOM TOWNHOUSE IN 2019 FOR $280,000.
She put 5% down. Her all-in payment was $1,680 a month.
She and her husband still work the same jobs. Combined take home is $6,400 a month.
Here's what changed.
Her mortgage didn't. Locked at 4%, never refinanced. But property taxes went from $2,600 a year to $6,900. Homeowners insurance went from $1,000 to $2,800. Same house, same loan, and the payment is now $2,080 a month.
Then there's everything else. Daycare is $1,650. Car payment is $520. Student loans are $450. Groceries and utilities run $1,450.
Add it all up and they have $250 left each month. That's before one repair, one doctor bill, or one birthday party.
Meanwhile Zillow says the townhouse is worth $455,000.
Up $175,000 on paper. And they can't touch a dollar of it without selling.
Selling means giving up that 4% rate and buying something comparable at today's rates. The payment jumps and both of them get a longer commute.
So they stay. They put off the roof. They skip the vacation. They watch the Zillow number climb while the checking account stays flat.
WHAT GOOD IS $175,000 IN EQUITY WHEN YOU CAN'T AFFORD ONE BAD MONTH?

CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME:
A routine dental cleaning and exam costs $250.
My dental insurance premium is $45 a month, which is $540 a year. The catch? The plan has a $100 deductible and only covers 80% of routine cleanings.
So for a $250 visit, insurance pays $120, and I still owe $130 out of pocket.
Add my annual premiums and I'm paying $670 a year for a service that costs $500 without insurance.
I am literally paying an extra $170 a year for the privilege of using a discount card that pretends to be health coverage.

A senior software engineer with top-tier performance ratings refused to install the company Slack app on his personal mobile phone.
His policy was simple: when he logs off his work laptop at 5:30 PM, he is completely unreachable until 8:30 AM the next business day.
On a Sunday afternoon at 1:15 PM, a secondary staging server went down. The engineering director pinged him five times on Slack with no response. The director ended up spending 25 minutes fixing the restart himself.
On Tuesday morning, the engineer was summoned into a formal performance review.
The director handed him a written disciplinary warning for:
“Failure to demonstrate ownership mentality and lack of responsiveness during critical operational disruptions.”
The engineer pushed the paper back across the desk:
“My employment contract stipulates a 40-hour workweek at an agreed base salary. If you require on-call coverage, monitoring outside business hours, and immediate weekend dispatch, my rate is a 35,000 annual on-call retainer. You cannot buy 40 hours of labor and expect 168 hours of availability for free.”
The director called his attitude toxic and uncollaborative.
When did having boundaries outside of contracted hours become a fireable offense?
