Here we go again. Absurd claims of Japan’s “remilitarization” are nothing but a ploy to justify the weaponization of critical mineral supplies. Beijing’s gratuitous export restrictions don’t impact Japan alone. They harm businesses across the region, including American ones, that have built strong partnerships with Japanese companies and value the quality and reliability of their products. Clearly, the words “stability” and “disruption” mean the same thing in Chinese.

Russia’s recent arrest of Hokkaido Shimbun reporter Yuki Imai is nothing short of a gross attempt to intimidate and muzzle independent journalism. As a nation that holds freedom of expression to be a cornerstone of any free and vibrant society, the United States condemns Imai-san’s detention and Russia’s refusal to allow Japanese diplomats to visit him. @doshinweb @MofaJapan_en @MofaJapan_jp
