Here we go again. Absurd claims of Japan’s “remilitarization” are nothing but a ploy to justify the weaponization of critical mineral supplies. Beijing’s gratuitous export restrictions don’t impact Japan alone. They harm businesses across the region, including American ones, that have built strong partnerships with Japanese companies and value the quality and reliability of their products. Clearly, the words “stability” and “disruption” mean the same thing in Chinese.

I am saddened to learn of the devastating floods in the Rasuwa region of Nepal and Kyirong in Tibet, resulting in loss of life and heavy structural damage. I pray for all those who have lost their lives, and offer my sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved and to all those affected by this tragedy.
Since this region has seen calamities in the past as well, these are certainly symptoms of a deeper underlying cause — whether climate change or other factors. I hope that appropriate follow-up measures will be taken, wherever possible, to help ensure that such disasters do not recur.

フランスはウラジーミル・プーチン大統領の訪問に懸念を表明します。これは地域に不安定化を招くロシアの一連の軍事的・外交的措置の一環であり、ロシアがウクライナ侵略戦争を継続する中で行われました。
インド太平洋国家であるフランスは、安全保障の正当な権利を有する日本の側に立ち、インド太平洋の平和と安定のために引き続き日本と緊密に協力していきます。
本日13日、ロシアのプーチン大統領が択捉島を訪問したと報告を受け、先程、公邸でぶら下がり記者会見を行いました。
2024年1月にプーチン大統領が北方領土を必ず訪問する旨述べて以来、日本政府としては、ロシア側に対し、大統領による北方領土訪問が行われないよう、累次申し入れてきました。
それにもかかわらず、本日、プーチン大統領が択捉島を訪問したことに、強く抗議します。
北方領土は、歴史的にも国際法上も我が国固有の領土であり、ロシアの現職の大統領による今般の択捉島訪問は、北方領土に関する日本の一貫した立場と相容れません。
また、日本国民の感情を傷つけるものであり、断じて許容できません。
ロシアによるウクライナ侵略を受けて日露関係は厳しい状況にある中でも、日本はできる限りの努力を払ってきましたが、今回の訪問は、日本国内の対露感情を一層厳しくし、中長期的な関係回復を困難にしたと言わざるを得ません。
ロシア側においては、このことの重大さを深刻に受け止めてほしいと考えています。

Putin’s visit to Japan’s Etorofu Island, part of Japan’s Northern Territories, is a provocative step that heightens tensions in the region.
It also underlines how closely the security of Europe and the Indo-Pacific is interconnected. Russia’s disregard for international law, sovereignty and territorial integrity is not limited to Ukraine. We see the same pattern on the other side of the world.
