My family was on a group video celebrating my 92 yr old grandmother's second COVID vaccine shot. But it quickly turned to fear for her safety in public after an already isolated year+. It was heartbreaking and infuriating. We must #StopAsianHate and stand united against racism.

Years and years of zero revenue. People ask why there are so few challengers in our industry, so I wanted to show the barrier to entry.
The pathological patience to grind heads-down for years, rebuilding market data infrastructure from the ground up. The ironclad conviction to spend millions and millions on physical, on-prem storage and real-time data. When we could've easily been a reseller like the challengers before us, cutting corners, the only selling point being "the cheap data provider."
Databento attracts everyone: from students, to the most sophisticated quantitative trading firms in the world - because not only did we modernize things - we made data extremely accessible and scalable. (Self-service, transparent pricing, human support, etc.)

As an AI researcher, I entered tech investing at one of the most opportune times. My wide ranging expertise including distributed deep learning for training large models across clusters, co-optimized ML systems, and electrical engineering just so happened to form the technological backbone of the largest capital raising cycle in human history. My background in software & semiconductor-focused investment banking came in handy to understand the financial engineering required to fund immense data center and power buildouts. And I just happened to have joined one of the maybe dozen Venture Capital & Growth Equity platforms in the world with sufficient scale and reputation to access these opportunities.
What I found in the New World was an ecosystem that cast aside traditions of incremental financing and instead embraced Scaled Compute, Big Data, and Large Models. This is the story of my excitement and hesitations for the Neolab Wild West.
