This is our river, in all its glory, elegantly captured by @Josh_Jaggard. After years of fighting for clean water & better wild habitat with @N_Rivers_Trust it means alot to see this film @BBCSpringwatch
In this series of Springwatch, we have been inviting you to take a moment of mindfulness. Relax and relish some stunning sounds and pictures from cameraman @Josh_Jaggard local patch in Norfolk.

Dear @Orsted @OrstedUK @VolkerFitzUK,
You have destroyed our river & all associated lakes. Please respond &
Please @EnvAgencyAnglia take the strongest actions possible to get this under control.
This is an ecological disaster. All our work over many years now undone.
This is the @riverglaven at Thornage Mill following mass soil loss to river from the @VolkerFitzUK @Orsted cable works. An ecological disaster. Spawning gravels now under >0.5 m of silt. Please stop this @EnvAgencyAnglia. I used to fish here as a little boy. I am broken by this.
Our poor river is receiving tons of topsoil again. Very sad. @HarriermanPhil
Any comment @OrstedUK @Orsted @VolkerFitzUK? An ecological disaster. We have surveyed every waterbody in this catchment & we will document the destruction you have caused
No part of a River Glaven has been unaffected by the mass soil wash off event of last week @VolkerFitzUK @OrstedUK @Orsted. Any pictures of the Estuary anyone?

The results of last nights torrential rain. Our meadow now has a blanket of silt and goodness knows what from the fields, roads and Holt Sewage Works. We work hard to manage this meadow ☹️🦋🐛🕷️🦗🐝🦇🌱🌼 @AnglianWater @N_Rivers_Trust @RiverGlaven @GlavenEel
1/2: The River Glaven is being destroyed by sediment runoff from the @VolkerFitzUK @OrstedUK @Orsted cable works. The river, its flood meadows & lakes are all smothered in soil from last Tuesday. We don't expect our rare white-clawed crayfish to have survived @EnvAgencyAnglia

The formerly wonderful, near pristine Selbrigg Pond @RiverGlaven today after a big sediment runoff event associated with the @VolkerFitzUK @Orsted @OrstedUK works last week. The great loves of my life are being destroyed. This lake will take a long time to recover. ANSWERS?
Some very bad pollution events are occurring every time it rains on the @RiverGlaven. The big recent change is the @VolkerFitzUK @OrstedUK cable works. The river is in big trouble @EnvAgencyAnglia
I’ve never seen the Glaven looking so muddy 😥 @RiverGlaven @GlavenEel #chalkstream
Notice a colour similarity in the water washing off the fields in Bodham @VolkerFitzUK
A beautiful shallow upper River Glaven lake received a massive & damaging wash off of silt from the @VolkerFitzUK @OrstedUK cable works today. This fine sediment will move downstream harming endangered white-clawed crayfish & much else. We need ACTION NOW @EnvAgencyAnglia
1/2: Awful pollution of our precious river in its upper reaches caused by soil runoff from wind farm cable works. Pollution on this scale every time it rains is unacceptable @OrstedUK @VolkerFitzUK. We want a solution fast. @EnvAgencyAnglia have been informed

Remember that nutrient neutrality is not *ecological effects of nutrients neutrality*. With time, even if nutrient concentrations are constant, there will be ecological decline in waters. Reductions in nutrient concentrations are urgently needed

A great day yesterday with the brill Norfolk Flora Group in an upper @RiverGlaven patch associated with the Cromer ridge. All sorts of species found & a great finish in N. Norfolk's most highly rated pub @RedHartBodham @Jo_the_botanist

Very important paper led by @JRThompson_UCL predicting how climate change will affect floodplain wetland hydrology, soil moisture & associated plants. It focuses on a v. well studied middle @riverglaven site subjected to flood embankment removal @N_Rivers_Trust @WildTroutTrust
Just published in Wetlands…link.springer.com/article/10…

Sayers ole Meadow was an arable field 17 years ago. It is now a mega diverse, structurally complex, hay meadow full of all sorts of locally rare plants. No seeding. Just abandonment & annual August mowing. A great example of nature-led recovery @BSBIbotany @Floodplainmead

What does the nasty combination of fine sediment pollution & eutrophication from sewage effluent look like in a N. Norfolk chalk stream called @RiverGlaven? Here it is. No submerged plants. Just algae & very little life. Devestating...

A pair of #ghostponds filled in over a century ago & restored in Sept 2021. Can see Stoneworts, Broad-leaved Pondweed & Water Crow-foot in flower. Plants supplied by long-lived & activated seeds. Going from nothing to something. Most effective form of ecological restoration?
