How can you listen to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and still doubt his faith in God Almighty, his competence and commitment to Nigeria and Nigerians, amplified by his love for this wonderful country? I find it hard to comprehend, though I know hate can make one deaf, dumb and blind. Meanwhile, we remain on #ArewaForAsiwaju and will echo the #A4A message until the elections and Asiwaju’s subsequent victory. Insha Allah…

There's a difference between being popular on social media and having influence in real life. Look at L.A.X's wedding yesterday. Former President Goodluck Jonathan, the Emir of Kano, Governor Dapo Abiodun, former Governor Ibikunle Amosun and other prominent guests were all there. What caught my attention was how little online noise surrounded the event compared with the calibre of people who attended. These days, some people feel every big occasion has to trend, with influencers everywhere and cameras capturing every moment. But clearly, not everyone wants their private celebrations turned into content. Having money and a large following doesn't automatically mean you have the connections or relationships that open certain doors. Those things take time to build. L.A.X's wedding showed that an event can attract attention without its organisers constantly seeking it online. Sometimes, you don't need to advertise your circle. The people around you tell their own story.

Every Friday from 2pm to 4pm, for two years, the big meeting room on our floor has been booked by "Steve." No agenda. No other names. Just "Steve." There is no Steve on our floor. There's no Steve in the whole company. I checked the staff list. The blinds are always closed. The door is always locked. Last Friday, our new office manager decided she'd had enough. She needed that room for a $200,000 client pitch. She got the master key from facilities. She knocked once. No answer. She unlocked the door and opened it...

My wife said she was going to a work conference in Vancouver. Monday to Friday. She is a marketing manager. I dropped her at Pearson Airport on Monday morning. Me: Have a safe flight, babe. Call me when you land. Her: I will, honey. Love you. Take care of the kids. Him: Love you too. I'll miss you. I watched her go through security. On Wednesday, my boss said, "Go to our Vancouver office for a quick client meeting. Flight tonight, back tomorrow." I thought, perfect! I can surprise my wife at her conference! I didn't tell her. I flew to Vancouver Wednesday night. I called her when I landed. Me: Hey babe, how is the conference? Her:bOh, it's so boring, honey. So many presentations. I'm in my hotel room now, so tired. Me: Which hotel are you in? I can send you Uber Eats. Her: Oh, no need, honey. I'm at the Marriott Downtown. I'm good. I'm about to sleep. Me: Okay, love you. Sleep well. I took an Uber to the Marriott Downtown. I went to reception. Me: Hi, I'm looking for my wife, guest name: Lisa Johnson. Conference group. Receptionist: Let me check... No, we don't have any Lisa Johnson. No conference group either this week. Me: Are you sure? Marriott Downtown Vancouver? Receptionist: Yes, sir. No Lisa Johnson checked in this week. I called her again. Me: Babe, are you sure you are at Marriott Downtown? They said no Lisa Johnson. Her: What? Why are you checking? Are you tracking me? Why are you calling my hotel! Me: I'm just worried. You said Marriott Downtown. Her: I said Marriott... Marriott... I meant Delta! Delta Hotels! I'm so tired I confused it! Stop checking up on me! Me: Okay, sorry. Rest well. I went to Delta Hotels. Same thing. No Lisa Johnson. I sat in my own hotel room in Vancouver. My wife is in Vancouver for a conference that doesn't exist, in a hotel that doesn't have her. I turned on Find My iPhone. We share location. Her location was ON. She was not in Downtown Vancouver. She was in North Vancouver. In a house. In a residential area. At 11 PM. I took an Uber to that house. I knocked. A man opened the door. Wearing pajama pants. No shirt.

Every Monday for nine years, my manager has brought two boxes of donuts for our team. 8:30am. Glazed, chocolate, and one with sprinkles for the intern. Without fail. We always assumed the company paid for them. Last month, our new finance assistant went through ten years of expense reports. She found the donut receipts. $40 a week, every week. Until 2018. Then they stopped. No more expenses. No more receipts. But the donuts never stopped. Not one Monday. She came to my desk with the printout. She said, "Who's been paying for the donuts since 2018?"...

Asking a guy to have sex with you in 1980. Girl: Darling, why don’t you come and lie beside me? Boy: You know I adore you, sweetheart, but we mustn’t rush these things. Girl: What’s the matter? Don’t you want me? Boy: Of course I do. More than you can imagine. Girl: Then come and kiss me. Boy: My love, I intend to marry you. I want our first night to be something special. Girl: But I want you now. Boy: Believe me, darling, I’m finding it very difficult to resist you. Girl: Nobody has to know. Boy: That’s not the point. I want you to be my wife, not just another passing romance. Girl: Pouts. Boy: Be patient with me, sweetheart. I’ll make you the happiest woman alive.

I found out my coworker was earning $1,800 more than me after an email was accidentally sent to the wrong person. I had been working in the company for three years before he joined. It happened on a Monday morning. I was checking my emails when I saw a message from HR that wasn't meant for me. The subject was: Salary Adjustment Approval. I opened it and saw my coworker's name. His monthly salary was $5,200. I checked the figure again because I thought I had read it wrong. I was earning $3,400. I had worked in the company for three years before he joined. I was the one who trained him when he started. I showed him how we handled reports, introduced him to the team, and helped him understand the job. Now he was earning almost $2,000 more than me. I couldn't concentrate on my work. Later that morning, I went to HR. Me: “I need to ask about my salary.” HR Manager: “Sure. What's the issue?” Me: “I've been here for three years. I've taken on more responsibilities, but my salary hasn't changed. I recently saw an email showing that someone who joined after me is earning much more.” She looked uncomfortable. HR Manager: “You weren't supposed to see that email.” Me: “I understand. But I want to know why there's such a big difference.” HR Manager: “I'll need to discuss this with management.” Me: “That's fine. I just want my salary reviewed.” She told me they would get back to me. I returned to my desk, but I couldn't stop thinking about it. For three years, I had worked hard and never complained about my salary. Now I was beginning to wonder if that had been a mistake.
