I've started sprinkling dictation into my (mac) workflow, and one place it's become really valuable is when having to submit 2FA verification codes sent to my phone. Reading them out is way nicer than writing them out, though I only recommend you do so when in private.

For Core Web Vitals what is CLS measured in? Why is 0.1 considered not good and 0.25 bad, and what do those numbers represent?
I've had 3 separate conversations on this with various people in last 24 hours so figured it's time for another deep dive thread to explain...

A concern I often hear about Speculation Rules is that it’s wasteful.
That is of course a risk with any preloading but we’ve given this a lot of thought and worked to reduce the impact of this as much as possible. I explained how in my Google I/O talk:

Last week I got some rough news that me and bunch of my coworkers were being laid off. I will be using the very generous severance to pause a bit and figure out whats next.
But if you are hiring in the Elixir/Rust/Go/docs/comms space lemme know! I know some excellent candidates.

"set up buildkite/GHA self-hosted runners on Hetzner/DO in 15 minutes or less" along with setting up autoscaling correctly/other niceties by following your book/repo, that would be an instabuy for thousands of people and orgs

The *majority* of performance issues in web apps are from over-bloated front-ends. Optimize your FE application's bootstrapping before you go fixating on a 300ms API call.
Show them the performance impact of using styled-components or all the BEM victims wandering the streets speaking in tongues.

As of this week, the ability to animate entry effects for elements like dialog and popover is now in every browser engine!
This leverages the starting-style at-rule and transition-behavior which became Baseline with Firefox 129.

Google Publisher Tag Ads Library just released an INP specific improvement Yielding on out of viewport ad slots insertions via SRA.
Publishers can also decide to yield on every slot including the in-viewport ones by using the adYield Config option.
A gift for anyone who's ever implemented conditional scroll shadows/indicators. What a time to be alive.

Use scroll-driven animations to set a boolean switch to "turn on" scroll mode
i.e.
@ keyframes anim {
from, to { --can-scroll: 1; }
}
And then use it to apply styles!
Hell of a time to be alive

I'm not a fan of writing {:ok, socket}/{:noreply, socket} in all of my LiveViews. Can't pipe into them!
So, I typically introduce ok/noreply helpers in every single LiveView.
But my colleague had the brilliant idea to introduce them to the web module! 🤩👇
