The gap between an average engineer and the best engineers was never quite 10x, but it was meaningful.
AI has made the gap at least 100x.

you can now implement a Diffusion model from scratch in Pytorch and Numpy.
start with gaussian basics, compute KL divergence, residual blocks, noise prediction loss, flow matching, small DiT block and more.

It was a feature back when losing your village meant losing everything. But nations like Japan, Korea and Singapore had almost no resources and they bet big anyway. Risk is how poor countries stop being poor. We’re not resource scarce, we’re courage scarce, and we dissipate most of it on outrage.

Log kya kahenge-ism was a byproduct of Indian society living in survival mode.
In a village, being shunned by the community meant losing everything from water, work, marriage, to help in a crisis. So we learned to stay small and invisible.
Even Nazar comes from the same place of thinking good fortune is a fixed pot, anyone who has more must have taken it from you. Envy became a way to keep everyone level.
Both ideas made sense once. Both cost this country a lot of individual agency.
I hope the biggest legacy of the Millennial x Gen Z coalition is ending this for good and replacing it with Aindrik confidence. Be self-assured, take risks, build in public. If it looks cringe, that's fine. Great work comes from people who are sure of themselves, not from people waiting for permission.
And there's no shortage. There's room for all of us to grow, so root for each other.
Every society laughs at its risk-takers first and celebrates them later. Do the thing anyway.
More power to Varun for making ambition look normal. I hope more young folks make him a role model.
“American is the land of the microphone.”
India is NOT.
Varun Mayya says India's problem in building big things was never skill. It was courage.
"I think we always had a courage problem. We Indians cut each other down”
@waiting4_asi
Ambition dies when the culture punishes anyone who aims high and misses.
Varun practices an antidote for such crab mentality practices & is trying to reverse this phenomenon with building this game.

Take your parent's plan for your life & light it on fire. The best path is one you create.
To beginners and professionals who are confused about what to build to further their skill set, just browse through Mrinal's profile, pick a project you find interesting, feed that topic to ai and with it's help implement that project in a language of your choosing.
Do it for 6 months and the returns will be incredible.
wrote a flv demuxer from scratch in rust
- flv container parsing
- pulls the AVC/H.264 AVCDecoderConfigurationRecord (profile, level, NALU length size, SPS/PPS lists) from video seq-header tags
- also wrote support for keyframe index
currently writing it as a universal library to use it with my golang video auditing framework :D

Attack on Titan was so insane that Eren literally woke up crying at his own future grave in the very first scene of episode 1. We had no idea why he was crying until the very end after the Rumbling. Isayama had the whole story mapped out from day one

Weekend hack: HackerTube. I was annoyed with YouTube's recommendations so I had Claude filter down 43M comments over 20 years of HN to 6,454 videos that keep being recommended. *Significantly* better viewing experience, ~2 hours with Opus 5.5:
hackertube.org/
- Excellent recs without any logins (state is kept in local browser session)
- Thumbnail is a representative frame from middle of the video instead of the super duper A/B test hyper-optimized user uploads
- Underlying data from the comment analysis as one zip file, point your Claude at it and ask for your own version
- HackerTube Longs ✊
A bit more on the process:
I use Claude Code (desktop app for Mac), Opus 5.5 on Medium effort as my default. I only talk to Claude and have it do everything, the only "manual work" I helped with in tandem was in the browser (reminiscent of MenuGen): 1) I had to create some kind of API key from Google Cloud UI to query YouTube for video metadata, 2) I booted up a VPS box for serving and 3) I bought the domain name. Once the box was up I gave Claude the IP and told it update, secure, harden, deploy and optimize the code, and it did the whole thing.
Many awesome projects that would have normally taken weeks/months even can now be few-shotted for breakfast. What else are we not thinking of.
Bro got the dawg in him, not just his name
two data vendors want to license the @TensorTonic codebase to package into RL environments and sell to labs for a fuckton of money. i would share the number, but you would assume i made it up
