Andrew Nikiforuk: If governments were truly serious about reducing emissions, they’d celebrate walking and subsidize bikes instead of $70,000-vehicles for the rich.

You can help us stop live horse exports from Canada to Japan. Terrified draft horses flown in cramped wooden crates 8000km to be brutally slaughtered and eaten raw by wealthy people. This is a money grab by a bunch of vile people. Www.horseshit.ca

If the separated bike-lane isn’t built now, by this council, in a #ClimateCrisis when its clearly needed to save lives and will strengthen the street’s success, and when it’s MUCH cheaper, easier and a LOT less politically contentious, I have little faith it will be built later.

The politics of bike-lane construction in Vancouver has become more challenging, & frankly less fact-based, over the last few elections, with anti-bikelane rhetoric becoming more common. Vancouver decision-making & action has fallen behind other leading bike cities like Montreal.

Vancouver can “future proof” Broadway for what the street IS BECOMING, rather than what the street has been. The status quo parallel bike route won’t do that. And this isn’t bikes vs pedestrians — we know safe bike-lanes make ALL movement choices safer.
